It's one of the best December 5, 2008 Z. QUIN 28 out of 39 found this review helpful
I bought this Laptop a week ago and I can say that is one of the best in the market. I tried few ones before and never was satisfied. It looks good, easy to use and has many things that comes with it. So if you want a laptop that works anywhere and easy to carry this one is the one for you. WELL IT IS MY OPINION :)
Good for the price December 15, 2008 BDB3003 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
I was looking for a laptop to use for working from home and some personal use and as such it doesn't disappoint. My previous laptop (or should I say craptop) was a Dell, and there's really no comparison. The build quality and screen of the NS10 is so much better, and it is generally quite pleasing to the eye. I also believe that it would be hard to find similar specs (i.e. 250 gb hard drive and 3GB RAM) at that price from a "top" brand. The in-built camera and mic are also top notch, and using Skype has been an absolute joy. Some negatives though: Sony has put way too much bloatware and unneeded software (with or without trials) on this laptop. It has taken me nearly a day to get all it all off and I'm still not happy (75 processes running according to the task manager). This may also have something to do with Vista, which looks nice but is definitely a step down from XP - it takes more than a minute to load when you start up the computer! But I guess many other laptops will be having these same Vista issues... Battery life is also a tad disappointing - it runs at just over 2 hours, with some power saving features on. Also the AV mode button, which is supposed to let you use Sony's Vaio Zone without starting up Vista, does not work. I'm not sure whether this model is supposed to support that function, but why include the button then? Speakers aren't great, but what do you expect from a laptop? On the upside, the graphics card is better than expected. I have installed and played Call of Duty 2 with no problems whatsoever. Granted, it probably won't run more recent games, but I'm not a serious gamer so that's no problem for me. Have also not experienced the wireless problems as mentioned by another reviewer. All in all, after getting over some small niggles, this laptop is a great buy - especially considering the price.
Nifty machine November 21, 2008 J. A. Mamtora (London) 77 out of 90 found this review helpful
Okay I'm not the best when it comes to laptops or techie things but I got this yesterday and I am pretty amazed with it - probably because I bought it to replace my old Toshiba laptop which lasted for four years and is ancient compared to this. The machine is well designed and sturdy and the resolution and sound are to die for (again this is compared to a 4 year old Toshiba!). The one thing that amazed me was the price - I expected to pay much more for this. Anyway all in all I am very happy with my purchase!
Very smart, however no Microsoft Office November 28, 2008 Dog of War 40 out of 67 found this review helpful
Just received my new laptop and set everything up, which was very fast and easy. Very aesthetically pleasing and very fast. I was however extremely surprised to find that you're only offered Microsoft Office on a trial basis, and it's not included in the Windows Vista Premium pack. Maybe that's just me being technically ignorant, but any laptop that i've owned in the past (and my friends that own laptops agree) has come with Microsoft Office, and now I have to buy it separately which will cost me god knows how much. Very annoyed, especially as the need for Office was one of the main reasons I bought a new laptop!
Nice Laptop for people with big fingers, No Software discs at all. January 5, 2009 Ms. F. leighton (Swindon, UK) I purchased this laptop in Dec 08 @ 421, very fast and the screen is super clear. Family over the end of ocean commented the high resolution of the built-in camera. Sound is excellent too. However, I am not used to the big keys on the keyboard. My parents love the big keys as their fingers are a bit more 'clumsy'. There is no microsoft office except a 60-day trial pack, same with McAfee. There is no recover disc so you have to create your own. Another thing I find awkward is when I open the laptop to switch it on, I have to press the base down hard otherwise the whole laptop tilt up, together with the screen top, maybe because I am too used to my "apple" Mac......
