A high quality cable that simply connects my WD external HDD to my laptop via a StarTech.com 2 Port eSATA Cardbus PC Card Adapter - Storage controller - 2 Channel - SATA-300 - 300 MBps - CardBus. The 1m length is just right to fit in the laptop bag and carry around, whilst being long enough and flexible enough to be practical.
1M eSATA cableDecember 22, 2008 RichJB(U.K) This cable is OK, but I had to cut the plastic back a little around the ends so I could push them in far enough. I have read on a few sites that it is a common problem. Be careful if you try this and it only needs about 1mm cutting back all the way around.
Cheap cable requires trimming of casing to work properlyJanuary 3, 2009 Marsh Ape(UK) I tried this eSATA cable with my 500GB Western Digital Home Edition but the laptop would not recognise the drive unless I wiggled the connection to the drive.
To create a stable connection you need to trim approx. 1mm from the plug's outer casing to expose more of the metal plug so it will sit fully into the HDD casing. I used a Stanley knife, it took about 1 minute. Now it is rock solid.
Great for the price, but not so good if you don't like DIY jobs :)
