It works perfectly May 11, 2007 P. Gethin (South Herts, UK) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Mine worked straight out of the box. It was easy to install. It was easy to configure and it was easy to connect the printer to four PC's on the home network. It works completely automatically - it is as if the printer is connected directly to all four PC's. It is at least as fast as if it was connected directly. I have mine connected to a Canon Pixma MP170. It works perfectly in both directions (ie it scans as well as prints). I could not be more pleased with it. I have just ordered a second one for my second home in France! (A note for anyone who has not done it, you have to have the driver for the printer installed on the PC before it can work - it is probably a bit easier to install the printer driver before you install the Belkin Printer Management software. To get it to work automatically with many PCs, set the option to disconnect automatically)
Easy to install, easy to configure and a great piece of kit October 1, 2007 Vestan_Pance (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not sure why the other reviewers found it difficult to install the Belkin Print Server but it sounds to me that they didn't follow the indepth instructions which are contained in a PDF file on the install CD. The instructions are presented as a full walk through and are very clear and concise. I got my print server working straight out of the box on a WPA encrypted wireless network with no problems. Although not stated on the box, the manual also includes set-up instructions for Unix/Linux and Mac OS X. This is a great piece of kit as I now have my PC's and Mac's sharing an HP all-in-one printer. However, while my PC's have access to the full range of features on my printer (e.g. Printing, Faxing, Scanning etc) my Mac's can (so far) only print via the print server. Nonetheless, no complaints from me, as my main priority was to print from all my machines, which I can now do simply through the Belkin Print Server.
It does what it says on the tin! August 23, 2008 J. Billot (Notts UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, looking at the other negative reviews, I hate to be a killjoy but mine seems to work on my small home network of a laptop, two PCs and now a wireless printer!! I'm not a newbie and also not an expert by any means (the best description of me would be a grumpy 60 yo with little patience). I will say, like a lot of computer equipment, the instructions could certainly be clearer and not assume any prior knowledge of the subject. I had a problem when loading the Print Server drivers to a second PC as they were rejected as "Unsigned" and promptly made the PC hang. I had to uninstall in Safe Mode but the second install worked. Yes, only 1 user at a time can be "logged on" to the Printer and the default position is that one is disconnected from the Server after 5 minutes "idle". However in a small household with say 3 users this shouldn't be an insurmountable problem and it's easy to log back on. "Speed", or lack of it, seems to be another issue mentioned elsewhere but again I've found the data is transferred and printed in an acceptable time frame not too dissimilar from my old system with an old, now defunct, PC running as a print server. All my computers run XP (SP3) and I've a Canon Pixma iP4200 printer. I'm delighted we can print at a moment's notice from anywhere in the house and would certainly say to anyone with a similar remote "printing problem" to consider this product. Good luck
Setup problems October 7, 2007 Martin Connelly (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Could only set this up on a desktop machine running XP 2002 SP2 when I used the pre-release driver from the Belkin web site. Then tried to set up a laptop and had no joy with any driver. Eventualy traced the problem to the print driver for the printer (HP1220C) both machines were set up with the driver from the supplied CD even though it was a Windows 95/98 driver. Used through the USB ports this setup worked fine and allowed the full use of all the printer options such as banner, tiled, double sided etc. This driver works for the desktop unit but had to be uninstalled from the laptop to make it work with the wireless router. The laptop now works with the pre-release software and the XP native driver for the HP 1220C. Martin
