However Good You Thought It Would Be, It's Better July 26, 2005 51 out of 51 found this review helpful
My reservations about lashing out a large bundle of cash for a camera made me shop around for a long time before I took the plunge. Now I wish I had bought it sooner! The D70s is a joy to use. It is quite heavy, but not unreasonably so, and it is very well balanced with the 18-70 lens fitted. The controls are extensive, but the basics are soon mastered, and then you get the fun of learning all the advanced ones. The quality of the 3000x2008 RAW images is superb, thanks to that great lens - although I am glad I bought the 2Gb high speed CF card. It gives me 330+ images at full resolution. I did worry about the built-in Speedlight, but it is brilliant, and the range of settings is impressive. What else can I say? Buy the camera, read the manual, have fun.
The best D-SLR out there below 1000 July 18, 2005 mecorn (New york, USA) 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
This camera has the same feel as the more expensive cameras like the D2X and D2H. The camera is easy to understand and all the menus are laid out in a simple way. I read through the manual and after 30 minutes i feelt like i knew enough to get the desired effect that i wanted. The images are extremly sharp and accurate. This camera powers up in no time so there is never any waiting time. I've tried shooting with the Canon 350D but i did not like it even nearly as much as this one. The lens that comes with it (18-70) is so sharp and on point. All i have to say is WOW...WOW WOW
D70s - great camera March 24, 2006 54 out of 55 found this review helpful
I've had this camera for about 6 months now, I bought it for general use and can honestly say that its great. I've used it for a wide range of projects, sports, night work, macro shots etc and overall it copes extremley well. Its very easy to use, if you wish you can use Automatic mode which does a pretty good job of getting good exposures. If you are a geek like me then you will be more than happy with the selection of advanced controls on offer. The standard kit lens, 18-70mm is extremley sharp and focuses fast. Build quality is very good, ive dropped this camera more times than I would like to remember and there is not a scratch on it, more importantly its easy to hold and use. Before buying a d70s I tried out a Canon 350d, the poor build quality immediatley put me off, I much prefer the chunky handling of the Nikon. Battery life is very good, i've literally lasted a week on a single battery taking 20-30 shots a day. Make sure you buy a CF card since most digital SLRs do not come with one as standard. Overall I think its very good value for money. Definatley would recommend it. If your interested in seeing some pictures taken with a Nikon d70s you can see them on my website at www.wavek.com
The wait is over... June 13, 2005 I. D. Brown (Southampton, UK) 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
The D70s simply rocks! After delaying moving into the digital SLR arena for some years because decent DSLR's were far too expensive, Nikon have at last come up with a winner. The D70s kit, which includes a nice piece of Nikon glass, offers superb value as well as outstanding performance. If you are new to digital SLR's the responsiveness of this camera will simply blow you away. This baby is fast, OK not as fast as some pro-level SLR's but she won't set you back over 2K (body only) either. If you don't believe me navigate to http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d70s.htm. Ken is a pro photographer who actually owns and uses a D70 (the previous version). He reckons its the best sub $4K digital SLR bar none !I plan to augment my system with a Nikkor 12-24 mm for those wide angle shots that I love and maybe a longer focal length zoom for long telephoto shots at some point in the future. I am now an extremely happy snapper.
