Those were the days... October 12, 2008 E. Sandalls 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Here's the weird bit to start with. This lens is presented here as being totally dedicated to macro work. But Omega present it as a "macro and portraits" lens, which it is. I've used it as a sole lens for occasions where you cannot really take every lens, and hold other people up while you dither between lenses. It does a great job. On my Olympus E420 it works as a 70mm lens "old fashioned" terms, so it won't give much of a panoramic sweep to your landscape shots. Indeed, that's the positive side to the exercise; it makes you think clearly with just whatever you've got. Anyway, it's a treat for portraits picked out against the background, scenery details, quick snaps of your kids without getting in their way, and of course every nature shot you would want, either "portraits" of a plant or a mass of flowers, or macro work down to 1:1 on an insect or a detail on a flower. Pollen-covered bees look great, for a popular example. It's a very satisfactory macro lens indeed. So, to use, it's a gem. And to own? It's made to the Olympus standards I first encountered 30 years ago. It's good value for money, not in a spectacular way, but it will easily earn its keep. Enough said. Anyone who wants to get the most out of their Olympus digital SLR ought to have a good look at this lens.
