Great, easy to use DSLR November 13, 2008 P. A. Heard (Northumberland, Uk) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace my aging Minolta, and havent been disappointed. It is a great, easy to use camera, with all the features you could want, and it performs well in any conditions. Mine is used mainly for sports photography, rugby union mainly, often in rain and snow, and the results are fantastic. I also completed an assignment recently, photographing Paris at night, and the results were amazing. I would recommend this to camera to anyone.
Sony Alpha 100 - a super camera November 23, 2008 Peter Coupe 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been using my Sony Alpha for about 10 months now, and I can report that I find it a superb camera in almost every respect. I love the twin dial setup - sadly replaced on later models by a single dial - which gives instant access to essential menus for flash, ISO, etc. The body is very light, and can be carried for long periods without fatigue. Some reviewers say the body feels 'plasticky' but I don't agree at all. The kit lens is good, but I recently added a 50mm 1.7 Minolta lens and the results are excellent - with apertures that really open up for shallow depth of field and brightness. The only area that is less than ideal for me is the low light performance - you will get some noise in the images at 800 and above iso. However - if you don't need to go that low it's not a problem. A wider lens will give you a few stops top play with so you can keep your iso down to 400 or better. The wireless flash is a real eye opener, and triggering a flash on a stand with a brolly while walking around a cable free studio is excellent. I will be buying another body, as I use my camera to earn a living and a spare body in case of breakdown is an essential not a luxury, and I will certainly look out for another Alpha 100. In fact I prefer it to the later releases.
