Product Description Nikon has revamped the D40?s features to give you even better results with the D40x, voted "Best D-SLR Entry Level" at the TIPA awards! The D40x has improved image quality and response times, and is just as compact and lightweight as its predecessor. It also has an impressive 10-megapixel sensor, 3D II colour matrix measurement and seven programme modes to produce stunning photos with incomparable detail and quality. Faster than its predecessor, the D40x starts up in just 0.18 seconds with a shutter speed of as little as 0.25 milliseconds, letting you capture all the action! In addition, the timing of the continuous shooting mode has been pushed to the limit of 3 photos per second, which is great for sporting and action shots. Supplied with the AF-S DX 18-55mm lens for the most common settings and an AF-S DX VR 55-200 mm lens for distance photos, the D40x also comes with an EN-EL9 battery and can take up to 520 photos on a single charge. Setting the pace for all other digital SLR cameras, the D40x is a must-have for photographers looking for reflex quality in an easy-to-use camera!

Great Bundle September 8, 2008 wolverine (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is an ideal camera for a keen amateur wanting to move on from point-and-shoot to something a little better. The camera itself is excellent. It benefits from robust build quality, ease of use and a clever mix of flexibility (for those who want to tweak) and simplicity (for those who don't!). I bought a refurbished unit for a similar price to a good quality non-dSLR camera and it is in perfect condition. The lens range is ideal for most purposes. If you're used to the old film SLR lens ranges, as these cameras are "DX" (not full frame - FX), you need to multiply the lens range by 1.6x to get a comparison to your old film lenses. Make sure the 55-200mm features Nikon's VR (Vibration Reduction) technology. Some sources claim that it can add up to three or four stops to the exposure you can use. Opinions vary over whether it's worth the extra cash when compared to the standard D40. The higher megapixel range (10MP) gives more flexibility than the D40's 6MP when cropping and enlarging, but some sources claim that it adds more noise in low light conditions - see http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40x.htm. If you're looking for camera that won't get in the way of taking good pictures, this may be the one for you.
