Great Choice - Nice Camera... January 9, 2008 Johnny P (UK,Yorkshire) 37 out of 37 found this review helpful
What a smart camera for the enthusiast.I bought this for my wife for a christmas present and she loved its compact size and weight.I acknowledge that its not an slr but its such a step up from a regular digital camera. The picture quality is great but you do have to play around with the settings a little for indoor use.Outdoors just leave it in auto and everything should be fine!. I'm no expert but this does the job for general family use, with occasional attempts at portrait and landscape shots. My advice is if you want expert pictures, you will need to spend hundreds of pounds more and will more than likely still be reading the handbook by next christmas!!.If its a general all rounder then this camera should fit your bill.
Try a superb camera, not the manual October 25, 2007 DPR (Cheshire, UK) 91 out of 93 found this review helpful
Previously I owned a Fuji S7000 which produces stunning results. The S8000 has most of the 'wants' I had of the 7000 incorporated. The 18x zoom is tremendous, the stabiliser is great, 8MP are very useful, intelligent flash really shows you what can be done. Add to that superb optics, red eye reduction, face recognition and you have a very competitive camera. Not quite a D-SLR, but you get more than enough telephoto without the need of lens changing and the attendant risk of dust on the CCD. The camera is fairly light but well balanced. Controls are placed well, although you must become adept at reading the menus -which have replaced a lot of the buttons on the S7000 - which are many and function dependent. If you want high quality TV style movies get a camcorder, otherwise use the very successful 640 x 480 movie mode on this 'still' camera. Finally, after a total of 71 test photos and 20 prints I can safely say the photo quality is up to Fuji's usual excellent standard. I would recommend it highly for an amateur using the 'auto' mode as well as a competent photographer capable of using its potential to the full. A very good buy (particularly at this price) DPR
The best on the market = why use an SLR? January 22, 2008 M. Kennelly (Wales) 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
This camera is amazing. 18xzoom covers the range it would require 4 different lenses costing a fortune for an SLR to match. The image quality is great nd the range of features are superb. This camera works just as well for complete novices or those with experience. You have lots of manual controls if that is what you want but you can also just pick up and point at the subject and take great images. There are currently 3 different superzooms on the market, this is by far the best for useability and image quality. The lst time I checked it was far cheaper than the other 2 as well. It's also the latest model to be released and therefore Fuji have learned from the other superzooms what is needed to be the best. I use this camera much more than my Cannon 400 SLr as I can get awaywith carying just 1 body and no need for multiple lens changing. Buy this today, it will make taking photos an entire new pleasure
Exellent camera December 16, 2007 R. Quick (England) 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
While perhaps taking a little too long to focus with a few shots, its not struggle to obtain more than satisfactory shots when you need them, be that macro's, landscapes or portraits all come out very well. While some indoors shots will come out a tad grainy, I was very impressed with indoor portraits, capturing very good colour and definition. While it takes a little time to get to know how to use the modes properly, once you are there you'd have to be a bit dim to miss getting those lovely shots you aim for. Easily the best in the price range that i have tested, without forking out another 100 or so you won't get much better than this camera.
