I read review after review about this item while contemplating my purchase and a lot of (not all) people have complained about one thing or another such as finding transfering music to the player difficult or it not starting up or crashing or the battery life being too short. I purchased this item maybe 2 weeks ago and I'm in love with it. I immediately connected it and 'with ease' put numerous albums on which all play without a glitch. I found transfering the music simple and the sound quality is AMAZING. I also purchased a stereo adapter to use it in my car and the quality is as good as if not better than the CDs in my car. The battery life is fantastic I've only had to charge it once since having it and I use it daily. The only fault I could find with this item (if I really picked) was that its a USB charge not a mains but to have an mp3 player you have to have a computer so therefore I don't see a problem. Travelling with it may be a problem but if you want an mp3 player to take on long computerless journeys you'd buy one that charges at the mains right?? All in all this is an amazing item and as someone who owns an ipod also I have to honestly say this item is as good maybe even better than an ipod. To get a colour screen 1GB ipod you'd be paying twice as much.

I bought this for my girlfriend who is unfortunate enough to be burdened by windows ME. Now officially this only supports Windows XP and is an MTP device. Fortunately once you upgrade to the latest firmware you can choose to set the Z5 to UMS mode. She has had no problems transfering at all. As long as your computer has USB ports and drivers you are away and can simply drag and drop using windows explorer.
The other excellent part about the Z5 is that after you have easily moved your music to it, the sound quality is excellent, on a par with my Sony NW HD5, and naturally gets better with a good set of headphones.
The build quality is excellent and according to the excellent forum Z5 lounge (z5lounge.com) the batttery will be reasonably easy for a user replacement. So it would easily last much longer than 18 months.
Buy and enjoy what more can I say.

It is absolutly brilliant. The songs are crisp and clear, the photos are great and the touch screen controls make life so much more easy. From me this is a 100 out of 10.

I was so going to buy an iPod for a long time but was swayed by the review in What Hi-Fi?
At only 60 I knew I couldn't really go wrong but it was one of those great moments when you realise you've bought something this good for so little.
There are 4 great positives.
1. The sound quality is fantastic.
2. The battery lasts a long time (I only charge it once a week)
3. The menu system is a dream
4. The build quality is better than any other music player I've seen.
I've since splashed out 120 on a pair of Bose triport on-ear headphones to go with the player.
Everybody who's tried it is knocked out by the combination.
This player is such a gem. 5 stars doesn't do it justice.

Theres little you need to know about this Samsung...
It works great with Media player It has no copy write BS and it handles nearly all media types just fine, its tough, reliable, the sounds great and the battery life's very good.
My player has about 13 hours of music on it. I have a number of playlists done in Windows Media Player... And to date NO problems (even though I'm clumsy and drop it often).
