Outstanding value!! May 8, 2008 C. M. Perkins (Stirling, Scotland.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I cannot believe how good this is for the money. I just wanted a basic MP3 player for the gym and couldn't really justify the price of an iPod (and didn't like the limitations imposed by iTunes). Came across this and thought it would do the job. It's actually a really smart looking device, feels like a real quality build - not at all like some of the plasticky 20- 30 players I'd seen in the shops. I just wanted an MP3 player but I'm really impressed with the range of features - FM radio, voice recorder, video and photos, graphic equaliser, etc. I don't intend using it for video but converted a file and transferred it just to see and the quality is amazing! Syncs with Media Player 11 easily for music and I didn't have any trouble with the video conversion using the Philips software. My only disappointment is how quickly 1Gb got used up. I have 13 albums on it, some quite long 80 minute compilation CDs, all at 192K, so for a little extra I could have got the 2Gb version. My one tiny gripe is that with a continuously mixed compilation there's a momentary pause when it goes from one track to the next (only a fraction of a second, but noticeable), which you don't get with a CD. I've never used another MP3 player, so I don't know if that would be common to all of them. Overall though, it's a cracker.
More than a stopgap May 12, 2008 Mr. M. Glover (Edinburgh, Scotland) I bought the Philips 1gb as I was looking for something to tide me over until I'd either saved up or made up my mind on something bigger and flashier. The price stood out by a mile. It's got a great little screen. I'm using it mainly on a bus to work so the sound quality isn't that much of an issue really but it's pretty good anyway. I copied all the songs that were on my iTunes playlist (approx 75) and that does me for the amount of time I use it. The shuffle feature makes sure I don't get bored. For under 23 who could argue. I'm seriously thinking of not bothering with any other MP3 player.
Just right September 11, 2008 AD (UK) Needed a basic player, and got more than expected. Nice little piece of kit, looks good, feels good and sounds great.
A handy player with plenty of facilities January 7, 2008 Michael J. L. Bygrave (Cornwall UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I reckon that 1Gb is quite enough for my needs and so this one fits the bill. The sound quality I rate as Good with the supplied phones, but it becomes Very Good with a pair of more up market phones. Loading music files is very quick and easy to do using Windows Media Player 11, but I find the loading of pictures and video a bit more complicated although once in the machine they look OK on the small screen. The FM radio allows for pre set stations. There is a built in mic to make recordings, but no direct recording of radio programmes. There is an easily understood Quick Start Guide provided with a new player, and if you register it you have access to an online manual which is much more comprehensive. Battery charging, using USB lead from the PC, time is acceptable at about 5 hours for the first charge and I keep mine topped up with a half hour or so charge each morning. Good value for money and serves my purposes very well. The software was installed easily enough and checking with the website regularly will access free upgrades.
