Excellent Skype phoneNovember 28, 2008 Techno.Pro(London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent Skype phone. Can be also used with you standard telephone line, e.g. BT. Takes 5 minutes to set up on Windows XP. The "hub" needs to be connected to a PC through USB port. The hand sets can be place anywhere in your house.
Great Phone ...but VISTA users BEWARE!!August 6, 2007 Alistair Robertson(Angleterre) 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
We've been using Olympia Dual Skype phones for 3 years or more. The problem with them is that after about 6 months of use the display starts to disappear. At the time we first got the Olympia it was the only Cordless Skype phone available. Now there is a wider choice. We thought Philips would be pretty reliable and opted for the 3212 Duo phone set - at just a few pounds more than the 3211 single phone. The package arrived with a small clear instruction booklet - which we followed exactly ... and that was a mistake as the supplied software is designed for Windows XP and does not work with Windows Vista. If you want to use these phones on Vista you will need to download the Vista compatible software from the Philips site 1st - DO NOT use the supplied disk. If in doubt search the Skype forums for VOIP321 - where you may find solutions to the Vista problems. OK so we wasted many hours trying numerous different ways to get the software installed before we finally succeeded - but once we didthe phones themselves are great. Unlike the Olympia - with the Voip321 - you can put your phones anywhere you like in your house - it is only the little base-transmitter-box than needs to plug in to the PC. The sound quality is pretty good. The menus and options on the phones are easy to use - they appear to work happily with both Skype and normal calls, so hopefully we will now have several years of trouble free use.
vista problems!!!October 15, 2008 Andrew Flower(London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Although they say this item is vista compatible beware!!! Despire the reviews here saying it's simply a case of downloading the latest driver it's not that simple. Search google for 'VOIP321 vista driver' and you'll find a community of people all of whom can't get this working with vista.
The only reported solution is having to install an extra PCI VIA 6212L Chipset based 4/5 port usb controller. (these are around 7) but still it's an extra headache. [update: have installed this usb card, unistalled skype and Voip321 software and renistalled from the vista download on philips site and.. it worked!!] Intially I'd had problems with the microphone not recording but this was fixed by uninstall reinstall. I also had to loose a TV tuner card to free up a pci slot for the usb hub which is a pain and shouldn't have been necessary.
