Reliable, easy to use and comprehensive software includedDecember 10, 2008 Paul W(UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Very easy to install the drive and software. With the provided software creating Blu-Ray disks is also simple and reliable.
The software is very comprehensive and works well on my XP machine.
One advantage for me is the provided software will play AVCHD files( .m2ts files ) that my Sony HandyCam produces - not many AVCHD players around so this is really useful for me.
Lg Blu-ray burnerNovember 18, 2008 Vlad_1 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this blu-ray burner as an alternative media storage to external hard drives. First impressions are that the drive is a fairly large but solid and well built the drive can be stood upright or vertical. Not mentioned in the specifications is that the minimum recommended CPU for using this drive is an intel E6300 and minimum graphics card to watch blu-ray films is an nVidia 7800GTX 512 or for ATI a Radeon x1950 or higher with 256 minimum memory. The software provided is power2go and powerdvd all will need updating when installed, instructions are provided as well as software to check if your computer is capable of playing blu-ray films and if not what needs updating or changing. The Powerdvd software for more then 2.0 sound will need to be upgraded. So there are additional costs if you want this. As i purchased this for data i will only focus on this, my inital tests at 6xBD-R found that a disc took 22-23 minutes to burn using Vertabatim BD-R 25gb discs. i have had no errors since at this time burning over 10 discs so far. Normal dvd + and -r burn speeds are lower then average compared to my installed desktop burner so I would recommend using your own dvd writer if you have one installed. To simplify this is a good product which is fairly fast and saves you the time of having to backup onto multiple discs. It was easy to set up and virtually plug and play via usb.(I'm using Vista) On the downside at the time of this review blu-ray discs are expensive and more then four times the amount per GB as using an external. With 50GB discs so expensive. I won't even contemplate buying them and testing at the moment.
