Excellent piece of gear June 20, 2005 42 out of 43 found this review helpful
This item is perfect for internet voice applications such as Skype. It functions as a seperate audio device on your PC - meaning that you can listen to music through your speakers and use your headset seperately (or indeed any configuration). The headset incorporates a very good quality condenser microphone which has excellent sound reproduction. The utility that accompanies the device is flawless - and don't forget to check out the "bass button"!
Exceptional sound quality January 28, 2006 M. C. Morrison (GLASGOW, Lanarkshire United Kingdom) 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
For anyone who values quality over portability, look no further. Of course the DSP400 is somewhat larger than some other folding headsets; EXTERNAL sound processing means that, in effect, you are buying an additional sound card with this headset - and an excellent one at that. As it has already been pointed out, you only need to look at the picture to notice this for yourself. Silkyrich overlooks the fact that getting a bundle of free Skype minutes - for calling landlines / mobiles etc - does actually set this item apart from most other headsets. The bundle enables you to call any phone, whereas without it only Skype -> Skype calls would be possible. Anyone wishing a long enough cable that they're not tied inches from their PC will be delighted with the length of cord on the DSP400. For those who would prefer a shorter cable when travelling, I have found that an elastic band / cable-tie / bin-bag tie can provide a quick and easy solution to keeping the cable tidy. The original version of this excellent headset wasn't foldable, which led to the earpieces breaking off my mk #1 version. However, I was so impressed with the sound quality on this unit that I was more than happy to pay out again for this new, foldable version - which has proved much sturdier & adequately convenient for me. I travel frequently, working away from home, & this is one accessory that I insist in always having with me. As long as you realise that digital sound processing means that you will also need to carry a small, light box in addition to the headphones (easily understood from viewing the picture, if your English isn't so good), then you will be delighted with the DSP400. An excellent piece of kit, highly recommended.
Excellent sound, reasonable portability November 20, 2006 Nicholas Sales (London, England) 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
I travel for work *a lot* these days - like 2 flights per week. Using Skype is essential to keep costs down for those telephone calls to my family in various countries, and these headphones make Skype astonishingly good audio quality (so long as you have the network, and a person at the other end with a good enough connection!) There's more to the choice of headphones than that though; my criteria for this choice: 1. Needed to be (reasonably) portable, and folding - they are reasonably portable, although there is a chunky DSP (digital signal processing unit) which is about 5 inches by 1 by 0.5, as well as lots of cable. Still, because they fold, and I can afford rubber bands, they fit into my (small) laptop bag. 2. Good sound quality - excellent sound quality here, with a graphic equalizer in the software that really works. Should you buy these for yourself? yes, if you value high sound quality, and will make a lot of use of them yes, if you have enough space in your bag to carry them (about the same space as a laptop power supply) no, if you want something cheap and don't care about the sound quality or portability very much. There you have it - I always try to help you decide, as I'm indecisive, and understand that every piece of information helps.
Excellent for voice recognition October 28, 2006 Ms. M. Betab (UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
After trying out numerous headsets, I decided to purchase the DSP 400 PC headset. The headset isn't safe portable but is portable enough to meet my needs. The thing that makes it larger is the inclusion of the digital signal processing external soundcard. However, and don't let this put you off, while the headset might not slip easily into your pocket, it is still portable. I use the headsets for voice recognition and I'm typing this using the headset. Many computers and especially laptops do not contain high-quality sound cards so the addition of the external soundcard with this headset is a great advantage. While voice recognition was did before, I now find with the addition of this headset that he is approaching 99% accuracy.
