My first ever sat nav June 27, 2008 K. Smith (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this as I have just bought my first ever car and I am no good at map reading. I am not dissapointed. The touch screen is great and the voice recognition is a brilliant piece of kit. It is remarkably easy to use and to upload map corrections and POIs which I have done a few times. There is something satisfying about uploading your own POIs!!! The voices are clear and the directions are said well in advance of you needing to execute them. I love the fact that music can be played via the FM transmitter on Tom Tom through my car radio and the music will stop when the next instruction is being read. I haven't had a problem with it crashing as the previous reviewer has had. It also has a desktop application so you san upload and download map corrections, new voices, images etc and be a part of the Tomtom community. All in all i love it and I am so glad I paid the money for it instead of forking out for a cheap 60 model where the maps can't be updated.

If you know how to use a tomtom, then you will know the tomtom 730T with its 2 new featues are a must. Those who have problems with tomtom units, are those people who dont know how to use them :)- Learn, read up, get the best out of your tomtom ! There isnt a better SAT NAV (other than the 930T) more expensive Ive had a tomtom 300, 710, 720 and now the new 730, it also comes with a guarantee to get you the latest map (8.05 May 2008) within 30 days of buying it, comes with a 2 year tomtom guarantee. Add thosands of POI's and your own speed camera POI's (Pre-installed safety camera database) and get the best of both worlds, so they just built a new road somewhere ? so what, Mapshare will have the changes !! Dont update, dont use mapshare, dont use your own POI's and you are asking for problems ! Did I tell you about the new "Advanced Lane Guidance" WAW ! it now shows a clear "Picture" of the lane/road/exit you should take ! IQ Routes Tchnology, This calculates your routes based on the real average speed measured on roads rather than maximum speeds. Already these two new functions have made my travel even better, and with the TNC unit (Comes with it) I have avoided delays! There are those who get lost down some country lane, and there are those who have a tomtom :)
Nirvana found! June 18, 2008 A. Bacon (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
No, not the rock group, but the TomTom 730 Traffic. The set up was simple and did not take too long. The TomTom Home software worked as advertised and the on disk manual was easy to navigate and answered the few questions I needed to ask of it. The very first day of use it was put to a hard test when a key A road / Motorway junction was closed. Rerouting took no noticable time and got me around the hold-up and back on route and on time with no fuss at all. My Motorola phone worked perfectly with it, both parties having clear reception. Dialling and connecting were touch-screen simple. My only gripe is that it doesn't work fully with my Blackberry Curve, but at least the phone functions are OK. And, as I get calls on both phones it would be great if the TomTom could work with two phones at the same time (but this might be a Bluetooth limitation). An update to fully support the Blackberry ASAP would be most welcome ... but don't let that put you off buying this brilliant piece of kit. AtH1900
worth it August 14, 2008 Terry Farquit (Fulchester, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
held off buying a satnav for a long time. don't bother with the traffic version - save yourself 20 quid - does not work in UK. IQ feature is very good indeed - chooses different routes depending on the time of day and has been v. accurate so far. lane feature is good stops last minute lane jumping - works on some big A roads as well e.g. A1. voice feature is good- very accurate recognition of most roads. definitely recommended do they do a Captain Mainwaring voice? - that would complete the experience.
