Excellent device! August 10, 2008 David Allison (Hampshire, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought the TomTom One V4 Western Europe as an upgrade from running TomTom Navigator 5 on my PDA. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the TomTom range. It was very quick to get started (just a few minor problems with TomTom Home down for maintenance) and update the maps and software via the USB cable. It acquires satellite lock incredibly quickly. My old system would take an age to get a lock, this device can get a lock in seconds even when I am in the house. The software is very intuitive and easy to use. No need to read any instructions, it is all just obvious. Some people expect sat-navs to give perfect directions but no sat-nav can replace local knowledge. So far I have been more than happy with the routes its suggested, and any route is better than no route when your lost! I was worried that the screen would be too small (I considered the XL) but the screen is very clear and easy to see so all good. I do not use sat-nav often enough to justify the XL or GO range. Basically it just works. I would recommend the TomTom range but used the product advisor on the TomTom website to make sure you get the model with the features you need!
Great piece of equipment - does exacty what it says! August 9, 2008 Steve H (London) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Bought this last week and it is fantastic. I really like the fact that the holder is attached to the Tomtom so it is less things to carry around. I have had no problems plugging the USB into the device, the plastic around the USB connection is actually tapered so it is very easy. Yes it does not have bluetooth or traffic updates but it never claims to either - if you want this you need to buy the traffic model!! It is very easy to use and very compact, ok it wont fit into your shirt pocket with the suction cup attached but not sure why you would want to carry it like this anyway. If you did want to use the pedestrian mode and carry it with you then just remove the holder. Tomtom also gives you a free map update within 30 days of activating the tomtom, so if you do buy it and it is out of date a little you can update it for free. All in all an excellent piece of equipment.

DESPITE THE PREVIOUS REVIEW I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS ATTACHING IT TO THE WINDSCREEN OR USING THE CHARGER. IT FITS INTO THE LIGHTER SLOT WITH EASE. OUR PREVIOUS REVIEWER MUST HAVE VERY LARGE FINGERS. IF YOU ARE A NORMAL PERSON PLEASE BUY THIS PRODUCT.

What a fantastic gadget! I have to say i have always been sceptical re sat nav but as i have a husband who doesn't drive and hates navigating needs must! I have to say it is simple to use, just you plug in and go. As I am increasingly travelling to unknown parts for work this certainly takes the stress out of getting there. Impressed so far! Will be taking to France shortly and hope i continue to be impressed there.

First impression of this new version of the One was quite favourable (however, to say that this will slip into your shirt pocket when the mount is attached is stretching both your pocket and the truth to near breaking point). The mount worked quite well if a little fiddly (have to twist a bezel to firmly attach it to the windscreen) - but is workable. It is attached to the unit at three point by spring clips, this allows the unit to be twisted into whatever viewing position is comfortable. However, the problems start when using the in-car charger - it is quite deep set and the mini-usb plug does not slide in easily at all, so some time is wasted trying to plug the damn thing in. Because the socket is quite so deep set, it's almost impossible to plug in the charger once the whole unit is fixed to the windscreen. Worse still, because of the way in which the mount is attached, fixing the unit to the windscreen becomes an exercise in frustration as the unit is very likely to 'ping' of the previously mentioned spring clips. Trying to re-attach the unit to the mount when it is attached to a windscreen is nearly impossible. At the end of this the windscreen is left with a series of circular marks (bit of an advert for the observant thief) and a larger number of smudged finger marks where battle has taken place with the damn mount.
