Ideal as a basic first or spare digicam, otherwise look elsewhere... May 29, 2008 PixelPartner 100 out of 102 found this review helpful
A few additional specs first: This cam takes 640x480 video at 24 frames/sec and 320x240 video at 30 frames/sec. Unusually for a stills cam, the movie sound is recorded in 16 bit quality (rather than 8 bit). It also has 32mb built in memory. Max stills ISO equivalent is 200. The manual states it is compatible with cards up to 4gb SDHC, but I do not have an SDHC card to test this. I purchased it as a spare camera for the car and to use when I don't want to be carrying a pricey cam around. For these purposes it's ideal, with initial outdoor and indoor flash images being sharp and correctly exposed. Close inspection reveals a higher than average level of compression being applied to the jpeg images (FINE mode - the best available) resulting in a lack of fine detail, so if you're looking for your one and only camera it's time to look elsewhere. The video specification is impressive for a cheap camera, but note there's no speaker on the unit itself, so although it records sound you'll only hear this when playing the file back through your PC or Mac. Again, the video compression rate is high so you'll see lots of little 16x16 pixel blocks making up the image when played back on a monitor, but this is less noticeable on a TV at normal viewing distances. Cheap, cheerful and perfectly usable as a take-anywhere spare camera. As this is clearly the target market, it gets 5 stars from me.

This camera is easy to use and great on batteries. The picture quality is very good and the colours on the pictures are brilliant. Highly recommended!

Budget Camera with Big Features August 28, 2008 Harry Ferris (England) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have tested this camera for a couple of days in most conditions. It has some great features not found on much more expensive cameras - I had a slight chuckle about the settings that appear to distinguish between male and femail features but the rest of the settings seem to work OK. I used the camera at 3 and 5 megapixels settings and actually found the 3 mp settings better as well as giving more photos on the memory card. The zoom is good without being outstanding and like many small digital cameras suffers from camera shake the more you zoom - tripod needed! The viewing screen is great but not tested in bright sunlight. I suspect it won't be too good. Setting up was very easy and the software provided more than adequate. Overall a very good camera for the price. Definately a good second camera but questionable as a main camera, hence only 4 stars.
