5 out of 5 stars A bargain for the money...   July 15, 2005

Upgrading after several years with an Palm m500 the E2 shows just how far PDA's have come. I think this machine is really good value. Buy an expansion card if you want to store pics/video/music & extra apps. The screen is really bright and clear even on lower brightness settings and the audio's not bad either. DocumentsToGo works well and has hi-res zoomable fonts which, for me, is a big plus.
The 200Mhz processor struggles a bit to playback video with higher-bitrates - but re-encoding to a lower size/kbps gives acceptable results. However, I was doing all this from the SD card - it's no doubt quicker from internal RAM.
The battery life is supposed to be a big improvement on the other Tungstens - mine had only just dropped to 99% after a week of intermittent usage so it looks promising.

A couple of niggles - the lack of cradle is a bit disappointing as the sync cable connector looks a bit delicate and there is no voice recorder but I guess they had to cut costs somewhere

I'd say it's easily best PDA for the money :-)

Having bought a palm t2 recently,I am very impressed with the pda.
Being self employed and very busy,it helps with organising my day to day stuff,I like the ability to scribble a quick note, some pda's don't recognise left handed writers!
The whole package is put together very well, this is my first pda and Im glad I chose a palm.My only gripe is that palm don't yet have a left hand slot for the stylus !
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to buy their first pda.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   December 30, 2005

As a first PDA I wasn't sure what to expect with the E2. All I'd wanted was a handheld that would sync with my calendar and other sections of my Outlook software. After setting up the software I tried this and was very impressed! I'd seen other PDAs which could not sync nearly as fast or as efficiently as the E2-it just did everything itself!

The E2 has lots of organizer type functions: Notepad, Task manager, Calendar, Memo etc. It even has a documents feature which lets me carry word, excel and PowerPoint files. Extremely useful! It even synchronizes these with the originals on my computer when ether I connect!

With regard to the media capability I found that the E2 is very good at dealing with all forms of image and video formats and software for synchronizing these is included. As far as music went I had wanted to combine my palm with my MP3 player which wasn't so easy! While the system includes "Real player" this is only good for RealAudio files and some MP3s...Not great when all my music is WMA (windows media audio)! It's easy enough to convert, but the sync program does not allow for music transfer...which is a bit odd! After a little research I brought a program called "pocket tunes" from the internet which was just a simple download. This loaded itself onto my E2 and now allows me to sync music direct from windows media player, just like a normal MP3 player. You will however need an SD memory card...and earphones if you intend to do this...together with "pocket tunes" expect to be set back at least an extra £50 for full media capability. I can recommend "pocket tunes". It is superb software and completely reliable. I wasn't disappointed! It can even switch off the screen during playback to maintain battery life.

Battery life, by the way, is also excellent; head and shoulders above some other PDAs and the internal memory is sufficient for any application. In terms of RAM, you get more here than with an IPAQ, and you'll probably need it! For all audio, video purposes the E2 is great. I can even run other tasks whilst playing music files.

I also found Bluetooth a useful feature. The E2 will connect to a phone for SMS and internet functions. You can purchase wi-fi cards from palm for wireless network access.

Working with computers a lot, I like to push electronic stuff to the limit and can say that the E2 is genuinely a superb piece of kit! 5 stars don’t seem nearly generous enough!! If you're looking for a PDA with everything, at an affordable price then go for this...It won't let you down!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent 'first PDA' with no real gripes.   January 10, 2006

Having only entered the world of the PDA through this device I must admit I am very impressed with it. It is very easy to set up and works well with outlook - allowing me to finally get some order to my life and remember birthdays etc. However it is the extras that really do make it special.

Using 'Bluetooth' to connect to a suitable mobile phone with GPRS means that you can grab email (hotmail etc) and surf the net (not wap - the REAL net) with ease. Belive me - I am no tech geek but setting this up was easy.

The MP3 player (real player softwear for pc and palm) is basic but the sound quality via headphones is good and it is easy enough to transfere about 500 or so tracks using a 1GB card. Playlists are easy to establish.

Only minor gripe is that the headphone socket is slightly recessed into the case and therefore you need to check the socket fits when you buy your headphones. No a real drama - but be aware.
