5 out of 5 stars Very happy with this kit   February 28, 2007

Some of the reviews - particularly Chris's above - may sound a little overzealous. But I must say, having bought this on impulse, I am very chuffed with it. I was concerned by the desperate battery drain but as others say there is a quick patch on the Palmone.com website which totally fixes this. I've had a palm m105 and a Zire 22 before, both of which (particularly the zire) can go months without a charge. This isn't so bad.

Somehow the Palm devices manage to combine a feel of basic functional simplicity with the ability to do anything - you can install chess programmes, complete bibles, the kama sutra - whatever!

I wanted a Palm because like Mac OS it suffers less from viruses than Windows and viruses now target phones. I use it on O2 pay and go and after a bit of chat with their customer service have no problem using it to browse the web - both full web and PDA / WAP services.

I love the text message threads feature and have reinvigorated several friendships with the frequency of my communication!

It's also revived my diary, thanks to the full colour coding for different types of event.

The browser is good - it works well with PDA content from o2 active and others.

Like others have mentioned, I too have chunky fingers and can still type fast on it - just a little practice is all it needs.

I also like the feel of it - it is light enough for a suit trouser pocket and its rounded edges just slip right into the pocket very smoothly.

Overall, particularly if you like Palms, and may have been hesitating over those chunky looking 600/650 treos, this is one to go for.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Smart Phone   January 29, 2007

I was expecting my Treo to be rather bulky but was surprised when it turned up slightly bigger than my lg890. I was also wondering if I would have problems typing on the keyboard due to my large fingers, again however my doubts were proved wrong as the keys are easy to type with.

The main reason I purchased the Treo was because it was a phone and the Treo is well suited for both calling and sending messages. The text messaging works like an IM, were the whole history of a conversation between two people can be scrolled back through. The phone can hold contacts details including numbers, name, picture, ringtone, email, home address, office address, birthday, anniversary (with countdown reminders). notes, IM's and 9 other custom fields. This allows you to have all the info on your phone when you meet someone.

With Bluetooth enabled files can be quickly shared and sent to multiple users at once. This is great as the Treo features a camera that will also record video. I added an extra 2gb memory card for 25 (max is 4gb), with this I can record 11 hours of video or 100 hours of recording sound. A memory card is recommended as the Treo will play mp3 and other multimedia files. Another feature is the ability to edit word documents, excel spreadsheets and create your own sideshow files. The Treo also features an in depth calendar, memo list, tasks list, calculator and web browser named Blazer.

At 275 this was a bargain. Additional applications can be downloaded (sometimes free), I tried a tube add on that gave me access to maps of London on my Treo so I wasn't struggling to find a map, this proved very useful. Alternatively I took pictures of local maps/timetables and stored them on my Treo. TomTom sat nav is another program that can be used with the Treo. It has been claimed the Treo battery doesn't last long but I can usually make it last 2 days which is about the same as any recent phone I have had.

If you don't have a PDA then the Treo will help you organise your life. The Treo can sync with your home/office computer so you are up to date. If you have a PDA without dialing capabilities, the time is right to upgrade.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic product but ...   April 2, 2007

I got my Treo 680 on Saturday, I have been using a Treo 600 for nearly 3 years and I noticed some big differences. The first is that although the 600 weights only a few more grams than the 680, the 680 feels much lighter and smaller. The keyboard on the 680 is bigger and easier to use - not the 600's keyboard was difficult.

The keyboard has been simplified and is much easier to use.

The down side is that my previous SMS chats were not moved over to the 680 when I did a sync. There are third party programs that do this but I couldn't find an OS X application that would do this for a 600. This is important to me and something I will be taking up with Palm. Some of my old text messages were from my deceased mother.

I had the power drain problem - well I think I did. I have installed the patch from Palm but I'm not sure if it was just me playing with my new toy and loosing all sense of time. In normal use I wouldn't be filming things and taking so many photo's.

Now all Palm have to add is add WiFi and hyper linking from text messages to contacts to the diary to memo's etc etc.

All in all a good product and I would recommend one.
