If only this woman had taught at my school November 19, 2002 E. A. Wade (New York & London) 41 out of 42 found this review helpful
As someone who often decides to do things on a whim, I have a plethora of language teaching books, tapes, CDs and CD-roms littering my house, covering everything from Mongolian to Mandarin. With most of them I'd do two units and then got disheartened or bored or both, and because there was little chance to practise I found that if I left it more than a week I'd forgotten everything. But this book made it a genuine joy to learn Spanish. I couldn't wait to get home from work every night to do another chapter. You get to write all over it which really forces you to concentrate and helps you remember. The author has a real gift for simplicity. She introduces everything so gently that it would almost be patronising if it were not so charming. It may be called a verb practise book, but other vocabulary is slyly slipped in along the way so that without noticing it you've suddenly acquired the ability to write a whole story! I was able to read whole chunks of the paper in Peru thanks to the [money] I invested in this book. I could not recommend it more highly.

After having owned this book on spanish verbs for about 3 weeks i can honestly say it is the most clear, easy and concise learning guide i have ever purchased. From beginning to end i, and my girlfriend, had absolutely no problems what so ever, also the book was a lot of fun which made easier learning and understanding.Learning verbs in any language can be both tricky and boring but, with this book no problems!.If you want to learn spanish verbs, and have fun doing it then buy this now!
Excellent! January 12, 2006 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is a workbook with which you can master the spanish verbs which are the 'skeleton' of the language. I worked through it having never done any spanish. It is clear and concise and also quite entertaining. So much better to do on the train than a crossword or sudoku! The language is broken down and carefully explained. I also recommend her book of pronouns and preposistions (the red one). I think they'd work well used together actually.
Supercharge your spanish June 20, 2004 simon gurney 25 out of 26 found this review helpful
Practice makes perfect is an excellent learning resource for students of spanish at any level, and this along with the companion pronoun and preposition book are amongst the most useful spanish books you can find, i would highly recommend the purchase of both. The books are workbook style, and are very well constructed, each chapter deals with an idividual area, introducing each new idea clearly and concisely and then an excericise to prcatice the new knowledge, quite often there are some interesting little features of the excercises which really help to emphasise the point. The book serves well as an accompaniment to a course or as a stand alone teaching guide, and is very clear especially as regards the grammar, the voice of an experinced teacher shines through. it is possible to approach this book from start to finish, although it is also possible to pick out individual chapters as needed. This book feels very complete, and is one of the most complete guides to the mechanics underlying the spanish language.
Best Book I have used yet! January 28, 2004 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I was recommended this book and have no regrets in buying it. It is easy to follow and makes perfect sense. Using it along side the Prepositions and pronouns book by the same author makes learning Spanish much easier. It is well thought out and the exercises can be done in small chunks. Would recommend and have done to anybody who wants to learn Spanish or improve their Spanish.
