A fantastic storybook to read over and over!!!!! November 13, 2000 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
My mum first bought me a copy of this when she fell in love with it...now it has become the most requested book in my classroom! Winnie has a black house and a black cat called Wilbur. This leads to many accidents when Winnie sits, trips and falls over poor Wilbur when she cannot distinguish him from the furniture. Winnie solves the problem by turning Wilbur into many different colours. Wilbur however, is unhappy and Winnie realises that she should do some redecorating in order to rectify the dilemma. A great story, where any child can join in with the "Acabradabra's". The other books are great in the series and we even have the computer game/story which all the children love to play. Being a teacher I read alot of stories and Winnie the Witch is one that I never mind re-reading once a week when the children ask for it!!!!!
Wonderful book. Fantastic illustrations November 3, 2003 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
If you are a parent looking out for great childrens books, (like I am), this is one of them!! Winnie is a good normal whitch, but sometims when she waves her wand she gets things muddled up a bit. Three fun stories told at a childs level; 3 to 7 year olds. Just the right amoung of text for both parent and child. The illustrations are so wonderful and detailed that during every read you and your child will discover something new lurking in these magical pages. I love this book.
Charming and clever with beautifully crafted simple prose February 1, 1999 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
On-line buyers, you have a handicap with this book - you cannot see inside the pages. If you could, you would definitely buy it. The story is charming the pictures fascinating, and the prose is probably the best I have seen in a book aimed at 3-6 year olds. Every word is perfectly chosen so that each sentence leads neatly into the next. I have read it aloud to my children probably a hundred times and still enjoy it.
An absolute delight April 27, 2001 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Winnie has a problem- her whole house is black, from the taps to the walls to the ornaments. So is her cat, and she keeps sitting on him. To remedy the problem, she turns him rainbow coloured, then bright green, before eventually deciding to turn her house rainbow coloured instead! Toddlers will love the rainbow coloured cat and ridiculous pictures of Winnie falling over him! It's a great shame you can't see the pictures on-line, but I promise you could not be disappointed!
Winnie the Witch: a Three-story Treasury July 7, 2002 Hannah,27 (Hampshire , UK) 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
A wonderful book for children and adults to enjoy reading together. The stories are exciting and remind me of jackanory; a desire to delve in to the author's imagination and join in the fun. The illustrations capture this too, each page could take an age to walk through. This front cover should go down in history, as one which fills the heart with anticipation. The most pleasurable feeling comes when you reach the end of the book....knowing there will be just as much excitement encaptured when you flip the book over and start again.
