The key to my success! June 28, 2007 Katie Turner (Birmingham, England) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book is wonderful i cannot praise it enough! When i started med school i was told to buy clinically orientated anatomy (Moore and Dally) i struggled using this for the whole of my first year, and just before the exams i happened to glance at someone elses copy of Gray's and immediately ran out and bought it. Topics that had baffled and evaded me all year became clear in an instant- the diagrams are that good! The explanations are more concise and not so waffly. The text is larger, so for me was much less intimidating. I will admit that the text is not as detailed as Moore and Dally, but for me this was a bonus, as i felt it was actually within my grasp, rather than just completely blowing me away! Finally it is interesting that Birmingham University now reccomend this to their first year medics instead of Moore and Dally which they had used for many years. Also I'm pleased to say that having abandoned Moore and Dally, i aced my second year exams!!!
Worth every penny! February 3, 2007 Dr. Cinica (Italy) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this book very much. I am a medical student in Italy, and I used it for my Anatomy part 2 exam. I wish I had discovered it sooner! Clear, simple, great pictures. I didn't use it alone because it lacks info sometimes, but it was great for understanding (really gorgeous pictures) and reviewing. I strongly suggest it.
OUTSANDING!! January 12, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you're a first year medical student you may be thinking as I did: 'best to get a small anatomy book for just the basics, without all the detail'. This was a mistake; the smaller books have all the detail just less explanation and picture. I'm third year now and I wish I'd had this when I was first learning, however I have and will get much use out of it as I continue to solidify and improve my anatomy. This book has excellent computer generated illustrations (so fundamental to an anatomy text) and thorough explanations, from the broader yet very important concepts like 'what are the boundaries of the abdomen' to specifics. It's the first book I've seen to have seperated out the skull bones which is fantastic as these are difficult to conceptualise. So my advice to first years: buy a big anatomy book, this one unless you find another goodie.
great for visual learners June 28, 2007 LC6 (London, England) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
As has been mentioned previously, Gray's Anatomy for Students has amazing illustrations. If you prefer to learn from pictures rather than descriptions this is the anatomy book for you. It very clearly illustrates relationships between structures and has multiple views of each area. A must have.
Excellent Anatomy Text November 17, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book, coupled with the flash cards, actaully makes anatomy interesting. Thee book is well divided into concise chapters, with excellent muscle/nerve/blood vessel summaries. There are brilliant sections relating anatomy to the clinic. The level of detail is appropriate for most medical schools, it's not too basic, nor is it over-the-top with complicated diagrams. There are a few minor errors (in both the textbook and flash cards) but I guess this is to be expected from a 1st ed. Definitely worth every penny!
