Great summary of a manual for life May 8, 2005 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
I am busy and therefore did not find the time to read the book. As a Consultant Psychiatrist I was readily able to follow the concepts alluded to and found them refreshingly simple. The folksy Americanism of the presentation can be grating but again that becomes less of an issue with time. I have recommended this to many patients who uniformly have found it of benefit to some degree. Having listened to the CD on several occasions I find my understanding has deepened to the extent that I regularly use the concepts in treatment (always giving Covey credit for his easy conceptualisations). Most people who need to read this book do so at a time when they are less receptive to reading and have less time on their hands therefore sticking it into the CD or tape player in their car to and from work allows the passive absorption of seriously good stuff. If you are not prepared to honestly go about the changes suggested in this CD maybe this is not for you. If you want to hide from the realities of your choices and mistakes then avoid this. If you are prepared to embrace a set of sensible principles then this presentation is for you. The best money you will ever spend!
Still a must read September 28, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Stephen Covey's book is still a must read in it's field. He gives a beautifully clear structure for self-development and a big picture overview of why it matters and how it fits into living a life with principles. If you haven't read it yet then do so now and if you have read it some time ago then re-visit it and re-inspire yourself.
Business Consultant July 2, 2007 Capsium (Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Stephen R Covey's book helped me to understand that I am the one who must declare success into my life. I need to choose to be different and therefore act differently in order to acquire success. Our purpose and our direction are found when we decide to improve the way we do life. Who we are is more important than what we do. You will be thrilled with the improved output in your life when you change on the inside. Get ready for your mission, see the big picture, don't hesitate to move towards your dream and do it with integrity and an understanding of how others see life. Every day choose to make a difference and you will be amazed at the "who" you have become. This book taught me that leaders are readers and that I have to choose to grow. If it is to be THEN it is up to me. This is the book that changed my business life, my self belief and financial state forever.
Manual for Life November 27, 2006 Mahmood Ur Rehman (Pakistan) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have read this book. It is an excellent guideline for life in POst-industrial society. It doesn't tell you about behaviour change rather it changes your phiosoophy of life as a whole and organizes it. A MUST READABLE BOOK.
It's not the whole she-bang but it's still good March 13, 2006 Mr. Philip Hackett (Cambridgeshire, UK) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I've had the book for a while, but am not a big reader, so progress was slow. This CD is 74 minutes long, which must mean that whole swathes have been cut from the book, but it does provide a good brief overview. If you're likely to struggle to complete the book, this might be a good way to get the general gist. I hope to finish the book later, but am glad I got this. The one down-side to this CD is that whoever compiled it, saw fit to put all 74 minutes onto the first track, which is fine for a single, solid listen, but useless if you need to spread it over a few days (who'd have thought I could be left longing for the days of audio cassettes again!).
