Super story March 25, 2008 Mehajabeen Farid (Coventry) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This book is a Puffin Classic and it really is a true unforgettable and terrific tale. This tale is very moving and that is why I really like it! It is by the author of Pride and Prejudice: Jane Austen! I thoroughly enjoyed it - the rating that I would give it is definitely 9/ 10, and think that older children aged from 10 - 15, like me, would like it and that those who were younger would not really understand (or get pleasure from reading) it very much. Here is the storyline: Elinor and Marianne are both sisters, who are (strangely) immensely different but they are always there for each other and their sister-in-law as well.
A delightful and witty book September 9, 1999 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Sense and sensibility is a book about life and love. The story unfolds around the lives of two sisters - Elinor: full of love, reserve, caution, and sense; Marianne full of love, passion and sensibility. They fall in love with men who are of the same character. However, through no fault of their own, they are both thwarted in love. This book is full of entertaing characters and delightful satire. Jane Austen presents a fascinating view of human nature: both the fickle and the genuine.
Well worth a read January 4, 2000 anna_mcl_team@hotmail.com (N.Ireland) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a beautiful book. It is one to read in the garden on a summer afternoon. To me it is different from Austen's other novels and has something young and fresh about it. You really feel like you are with these two sisters as they suffer the trials love puts in their way.
One of the funniest books I've read. March 12, 1997 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jane Austen's dry and sarcastic sense of humor spans the 175+ years between her time and ours. This very enjoyable, lighthearted, fun reading. It might take a while to get used to the early 19th century grammar, but it is worth the effort.
This was a book of all emotions rolled into one story. August 24, 1998 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Sense and Sensibility is a wonderful novel that shows how great a love one has for their family. In all circumstances, Elinor never once demonstrated her misery in front of Marianne when she was having problems. This also shows how very shallow and selfish people were in Britain. How women only married men for their name and money. I admire Mrs. Dashwood in that she didn't care who her daughters married, so long as they were happy.
