Another top story! September 21, 2007 Bel (Scotland) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this book last night and couldn't go to bed till I'd finished it! Another great offering from J R Ward, and I enjoyed it much more than I'd expected given V's lifestyle. Some big surprises, and plenty to keep you guessing about the next book(s). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, but it's best to read the series in order or it could get confusing.
Vishous, what a man! September 22, 2007 T. Neal (Hemel Hempstead, England) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the fifth in the JR Ward series of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. The books don't have to be read in their order of Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed and then Lover Unbound but I do think it helps. This is the story of Vishous, a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Dr Jane Whitcomb. They meet when she operates on V after a run in with the lessers. The story follows the relationship between the two. It also sensitively deals with the relationship between V and Butch. If you've read the other books you will understand what this means. We also see John preparing for the transition and considerably more detail about the Scribe Virgin and the Chosen. There is very little fighting with the lessers, much less than the previous books. I am not going to discuss the plot as this would spoil it but as with all things adversity must be overcome. Phury has more of a role than previous books and his book is released next. New characters are introduced that i'm sure will be in future books. If you loved the earlier books you will love this. I think you will get a lot more from it if you have read the preceeding books. A lot of background information is filled in about the Brotherwood and their world. Absolutely worth your money and time!! Love it.
A story of great worth for a male of great worth. September 25, 2007 DuuhWaaynePuppy ;) (Scotland, UK) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book has been much anticipated by most, if not all, fans of The Black Dagger Brotherhood - and it didn't disappoint! This is the story of Vishous, brilliant and cunning and never hoping to find love, but it finds him. Dr Jane Whitcomb, literally has V's heart in her hands and it is destined to be that way for ever more. The exciting, face paced world of the Brothers et al was opened up in this book, much more than previous installments - now the mind boggles what exactly Ms Ward has in store for them next! It was great to see so many layers and depths encompassed into one thrill packed read, this book has everything - laughs, tears, love and loss and more twists and turns than a roller coaster. So strap in and enjoy an edge -of-your-seat ride into deepest darkest Caldwell NY. If your lucky you may even get your breath back before the next installment- Phury's book, Lover Enshrined....I said MAY....
Fabulous writing! September 28, 2007 Sanne Helena Skovborg (Lyngby, Denmark) 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have eagerly been anticipating this book for the last week and grew quite nervous that it would not live up to my expectations after having read other rewievs on it - And all my worries have been for naught! J.R. Ward has with this book proven to me that she is a brilliant writer and manages to keep the story about the Black Dagger Brotherhood flowing here at book number five and even leaves me wishing for more. I understand why some rewievers have been unkind to the book, as it does not fit into the very bland romance category where it is often placed. The pink tinted happy ever after of a lot of romances is not met at the end, and I would imagine some readers would feel cheated for not getting this. The book tells the story about Vishous, his love and his journey towards understanding and acceptance of himself. At the same time the story tells us quite a lot about charaters we have already met in previous books and goes a bit more in depth about the charaters of Phury, John Matthew and the trainees whom we have yet to read about in their own books. New characters and characters we have only met briefly are also being brought into the story and developed. The story is pretty much told as a recounting of the day to day life of the Black Dagger Brotherhood at interesting points of their lives and each books leaves me with a feeling of having been allowed a bit more knowledge about the Brothers while still leaving me curious for more. At the end of the book I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment of the series and can only recomment this book to others. However, if you crave the happy ever after with normal lives, fluffy pink happiness and 2.5 children, don't bother as you will most likely be dissapointed, this is after all a somewhat alternate reality.
Not as good but....... November 29, 2007 N. Batey (Cumbria, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Yes i agree with many of the other reviewers, this is not the best book in the series, but compared to many other books in this genre it is still an excellent read.
