| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second book in the phenomenally successful Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, and after listening to this fantastic reading of what is sure to become an absolute classic, there is little doubt that Rowling's stories will continue to capture the imaginations of generations of young readers long into the future. After surviving his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and then enduring a summer holiday with the dreadful Dursleys, Harry is ready and raring to get back to his school friends. But something is trying to stop him, and after missing the Hogwart's Express he just about makes it to the school gates on time courtesy of a flying car and rather a lot of magic. But the eventful journey back to school is just the beginning and when rumours about the mysterious Chamber of Secrets start to spread Harry realises that his second year is going to be just as eventful as the first. Matching Stephen Fry's endearingly snooty vocal chords with Rowling's superb storytelling skills was a stroke of genius: Fry manages to give further depth to an already complex and utterly absorbing plot by adding an irreverent wit and a deep-rooted touch of class to a compelling and magical tale that, once heard, will never be forgotten. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a fantastic book, and this stupendous audio version is perfect for long car journeys and sleepless nights, and is an ideal way to introduce reluctant readers to the awe-inspiring world of Harry Potter. Enjoyable for all ages May 22, 2001 julia@classicbadges.com (England) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I love Stephen Fry's reading of this book. Although it is typically recommended for 9 years and up, my daughter, who is just five, is already hooked. Fry's clear reading makes the story easy to follow even for younger listeners.
Fry shoots, he scores! June 4, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have read all three books and was astounded by the amazing storyline! I have listened to the tapes and in doing so have come to the conclusion that Stephen Fry should be the narrator for all the books. His use of voices for all the different characters alone is enough to keep anyone interested, but combined with J.K Rowling's amazing suspense filled storyline, it is a tape to die for. I just can't wait till the next book comes out on tape.
Better than the film December 3, 2002 Stephen Hill 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Stephen Fry is superb in the way he brings Harry and co to life in this unabridged reading. It is long with 6 cassettes, but it moves along at a good pace. The way Fry plays Lockhart is the best part of the reading. He captures the right voice and tone for this character, much better than Kenneth Branagh in the movie, although to be fair Branagh is not given all the lines. This is the book as written by J K Rowling, every last word. I would highly recommend this, especially if you have children and are faced by long car journeys.
Incredible pleasure June 6, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm driving to work these days with a big grin on my face. Listening to Fry's splendid performance of JK Rowling's clever and tremendously funny text is just a huge pleasure. It really is a toss-up as to which I enjoy more. Fry does a magnificent job of communicating the Public School (known as Hogwarts) and its characters, a world he knows so well.Waiting impatiently for volume 3 from Cover to Cover! And all the rest of Rowling's series on paper and in my ears.
Wonderful! Amazing! Spectacular ! July 22, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Try and read this book and not love it! It is an absoloutedly wonderful sequel to harry potter and the philosopher's stone, which was also great. As the plot gets more and more complicated, you find yourself physically and mentally wanting to go on! It's so catchimg, what with the secrecy of the story and the mystery and the magic of the idea. If you want to read it you'll love it.
