Great tent - reliable make - sewn in groundsheet July 28, 2008 Astronaut (London, UK) 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
I've been researching to purchase a tent for a while and have no hesitation in recommending the Gelert Horizon. And at 125 is a bargain. Gelert introduced the Horizon for 2008. A six berth (which means comfortable for 4 with luggage) arranged vis-a-vis (means a 3 man bedroom pod at each end). See gelert dot com for measurements and details, but it's 720cm long and 240cm wide. The good things about this tent: 1. Hydrostatic head of 5000mm (means its waterproof rating is the highest rating). 2. The bedroom pods have fly mesh screens (the outer door don't). 3. The height is excellent at 220cm and this height means you can stand in the bedrooms (it goes down to about 190 in the bedrooms). 4. The central living area is 240cm x 240cm and has lighter fabric ceiling to let in more light. 5. Has sewn in groundsheet thoughout, so wind and bugs are kept at bay. 6. Good size windows on both sides of the living area. 7. Total pack weight 21kg. Pack size 67cm x44cm x26cm. 8. Tunnel tents are easy to put up, whole process takes less than 30 minutes. 9. I recommend you get a Gelert Horizon Canopy to go with this tent (costs about 40 - 50)which protects the door from rain, gives you somewhere to cook under and store things and extends the living area. A side canopy is always a great addition to any tunnel tent. I have the Gelert Horizon 8 which is slightly bigger, but this Horizon 6 is a fab tent at this price and perfect as a weekender for 4 people.
Fab Tent - Great for '4' people, leaving plenty of space! November 9, 2008 M. Alexander After looking around for a tent for a holiday camping, we were torn between the Gelert Horizon 6 and an Outwell model. The Gelert won through as the two bedrooms were at each end of the tent with two entrance doors in the middle, plus one spare exit behind a bedroom area. The bedrooms easily held a Coleman quick-inflate double matress with room for bags, and could sleep 6 if needed. With both bedrooms installed you still had an area of approx 2.4m by 2.4m in the centre area for sitting, eating, etc. If you removed one bedroom you could easily park bikes and other luxury items. We put two 'car' rugs in to protect the floor surface and will look at buying the dedicated carpet for the model. The tent is fully sealed between the main flysheet and the ground sheet which is a real positive as this means that heat is held in the tent at night. With the high hydrostatic rating of 5000 it also stops the ingress of any water into the tent from rain or across the ground. The guy ropes are flourescent yellow which is great at night and there is some reflective Scotch type tape stitched in to the pole areas as well. Setting up the tent was fairly easy, even on the first attempt in the garden. I would recommend starting at one end and work along to the other. Also make sure that the doors are zipped shut and there is not too much tension when pegging the related sections, as we found that the doors were hard unless we allowed for this. Minor issues are that the tent needs carefull packing into the three section bag. This comes with practice!! The second issue relates to the two main doors on the tent and having to remember to pitch the tent so they opeened easily. Overall a great tent and well worth buying at the right price.
