Connolly shows early prowess for hilarity November 10, 2001 lazarus160@earthlink.net (Portage, Michigan, USA) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
I am an American citizen with Scottish native born parents, I spent several years in Scotland at a boarding school. Billy taught me everything and anything about Scottish culture and humor. This CD displays how he developed his art for hilarious story telling, it's worth the money alone for "The Crucifixion", I believe it would even cause the Divine One to crack a smile.
Early, excellent Connolly December 25, 2000 24 out of 26 found this review helpful
This is an excellent and very funny CD, which while perhaps not containing Connolly's finest material, nonetheless merits five stars. The performances are from early on in Connolly's career, which means that they are less agressive and crude then some of his latter material, in which I feel he plays to his own controvercial image too much. Even when the material itself is not the funniest, Connolly's easy, infectous manner wins you over and makes it a pleasure to hear - even over and over. The audience, inobtrusively heard in the background, are audible just enough to create a very 'live' feel to the recordings, making it very easy to be swept along and imagine yourself there on the night. A fine recording which will leave you with an hour-long smile well worth the money.
You try not laughing out loud August 26, 2008 P. Lymn (Bristol, UK) Not Billy at his cutting best in my opinion but a great listen to make those dreary commutes go by with a smile. I challenge you not to laugh out loud numerous times!
