From Amazon.com Lionel Bart's wonderful musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic was the first London stage musical to be transplanted to Broadway with the same kind of sensation it received in Britain-- something that is now common in these post-Cats/Les Miserables times. Although no one from this British cast ever became enormously famous (future Monkee Davy Jones was in the second Broadway cast)--and Sir Carol Reed's film version receives all the critical accolades--this remains the better recording, featuring all the songs cut from the film, while excluding the film's musical interludes that simply seem annoying without the visuals. Just compare Bruce Brochnik to the film's Mark Lester in the title role. Or Clive Revill to Ron Moody's Fagin. Or any of the principals, for that matter--and the differences are remarkable. --Bill Holdship

"It a fine, FIIIIINE life" November 3, 2004 C. Crabtree (uk) 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
What a fantastic film with a brilliant soundtrack. I used to watch this when I was only 2 and from then on knew the entire film off by heart, including the script. If you like musicals, then this is the one for you. It is a real get up and dance type film, and will have you entertained for hours even though there are no pictures to watch. And who says you have to be able to sing to enjoy this soundtrack? Half the time in the Oom Pa Pa song there are lots of drunk men singing, so if you are really terrible you can always play/ sing those parts. Great price. buy buy buy!!
ONLY THE BEST ! October 11, 2000 23 out of 38 found this review helpful
It Is very hard to take a theatre musical and make a film version out of it . most of the time what comes out of it is a complete disaster . but sometimes ( like in OLIVER )you can get only the best . you can watch OLIVER time after time and still shad a tear when MARK LESTE is singing " Where is love " . You can get cheerful when you hear SHANI WALLIS singing the umpa-pa and you can smile when JACK WILD is giving you a wallet full of cash and consider yourself at home. Shiver when you see OLIVER REED as bill sikes And never forget RON MUDDY who is astonishing as fagin . he bring you not just the joy of fagin but also the agony .One of the best things is the soundtrack of this film which brings you LIONAL BART musical in the best version which is better then any stage version ever. In a lot of times when you take a musical and mack a film out of it - the music adoption in the film is deferent then in the theatre version. But in OLIVER you get only the best .
Great songs, great singers, great value. August 16, 2008 redfibee I bought this to take on holiday with us. We sang along to it for hours.

I've always loved the film Oliver! especially singing along with the musical numbers in the film. So recently I purchased the CD soundtrack. I already love the songs so there's no issue there but the songs are cut from what is heard in the film. This disapointed me which is why i've only given it three stars.
