5 out of 5 stars This is gonna be so good!   August 3, 2008

I have been very fortunate to see Bryn Christopher play live twice now, with another couple of gigs lined up over next couple of months.

Bryn is an extraordinary performer and although his kind of soul music has been described as 'retro'/old-school, it's contemporary at the same time. I heard Bryn's first release 'The Quest' on Radio 2 earlier this year, I was hooked immediately. Smilin' with it's infectious hook will be the second track to be released.

His upbeat songs like 'Seconds Ago' force you to groove along and shake that ol' booty, whilst my particular favourite, the ballad: 'My Kind of Woman' tears at the heartstrings - it's a gloriously emotional song!

Although he's already supported the likes of Amy Winehouse and Mary J Blige to great acclaim, I sincerely hope Bryn gets the media coverage/exposure to get him to the very top... which is precisely where he belongs!

Saw Bryn live last week in Shepherd's Bush - London and was completely taken by him. Has great voice and stage presence. Couldn't take my eyes (and ears) off him. This time next year, won't probably be able to see him at a small venue so glad I did last week. Good luck with the album Bryn!

5 out of 5 stars Extremely Under-Rated   October 24, 2008

With Bryn Christopher, it's very much Gnarls Barkley meets Amy Winehouse.

Some songs are dark, sensual and passionate while others manage to explode from the speakers in an array of delightful pop, soul, r n b and jazz.

The opening single, Help Me is a fast paced bout of jazzed up dance which immediately gets the feet tapping, setting you up for the album's notoriously slick track lineup.

And the haunting smilin' may remind fans of Gnarls Barkley's summer smash hit Crazy, especially with its cool drum beat, modest riff and insanely catchy hook. The track is easily comparable to Barkley's crazy and arguably remains the album's dark horse.

While you'll notice positive elements of Winehouse and Gnarls Barkley in Christopher's music, The Way You Are even draws similarities to Macy Gray with Christopher's impressively varied vocals.

Other noticeably standout tracks are The Quest, Found A New Love, The Way You Are and the infectious album title, My World.

The closing track my kinda woman may at first seem like a wishy-washy love ballad, yet when you let Christopher's raw voice and sentimental song writing take over, the song melts into a heart warming slab of magic. And when you give the closing song a few minutes you'll notice Christopher's bonus song Taking Me Over, an under rated gem with slow, catchy build ups and an explosively passionate chorus that.. well.. momentarily shocks you with its awe and takes over..

I'm not exaggerating when I say that there's not a bad track on the album. Every song is smooth, slick and refreshingly powerful. Make no mistake about this talented singer and songwriter. Bryn Christopher's My World is incredibly under-rated.

5 out of 5 stars My World - Superb!   September 9, 2008

Today I bought this album as a bit of a gamble. Heard the lastest single 'Smilin' the other day and have been playing it non stop as it's fantastic. Then heard 'The Quest' and loved it too.
I am so glad I bought this album as I have been listening to it for the past 4 hours, its amazing! An instant hit.
01. Help Me - The opening track and as soon as I hear it I'm hooked. Full of energy and sounds like part of a soundtrack to a big hollywood movie. Uplifting and a song that can easily be played over and over. 10/10
02. Smilin' - The 2nd single off the album and this is simply love to the ears. I love the vocals and catchy hooks in this song. It's so unique and soulful. Should deserve higher than it's current #31 position. 10/10
03. Sour Times - Carrying on to be edgy and deep. Amazing. 10/10
04. Stay With Me - The pace doesn't slow down and this song is like a track Amy Winehouse or John Legend would kill to have on their next albums. 9/10
05. The Quest - The debut single and it's incredible. Will be stuck in your head all day. Again, brilliant vocals. 10/10
06. My World - The 6th track into the album and nothing seems to be slowing down, just getting better. This tracks picks up some warmer beats and is uplifting. 9/10
07. Found A New Love - Slick and smooth. One belter of a song. 8/10
08. Seconds Ago - Another favourite of mine on the album. Quirky and catchy hooks. 10/10
09. The Way You Are - The pace slows down for this slow tempo ballad but it is perfect for the album. Really cute lyrics and such. 9/10
10. Gonegonegone - Yet another favourite. Continuing the single material trend of all the other songs. 10/10
11. My Kinda Woman - Hear his heart bleed out in this chilled out tune. 7/10
12. Taken Me Over - Nice song to finish off the album. Finishing on a high with this darker tune. Nice piano and vocals again. 9/10

Overall, one of the best album of the year, if not of my collection and I haven't even had the album a day yet. It is fantastic! Bryn Christopher deserves all the success he can get, what a talent and what a fanastic album. All the songs go together so well. Nothing but praise!
