Video - A genuine reason to buy! September 10, 2007 Andrew D. Holley (Sheffield) 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
Picked one of these up on the High St. today (Apple Store) & I am very impressed. Had been holding off buying an addition/upgrade for my old 3gen Ipod which still works OK until Apple were able to offer me a reason to get another. I wanted video playback but couldn't justify a new full size Ipod - so was delighted when video available on the new Nano. Very small & compact - less than the size of a credit card but approx 3 times as thick. Spilt screen / Cover Flow & Battery Life all very slick & impressive. Only slight doubt is it worth an extra 30 for the 8gb - Maybe not I've encoded 3 full length films (using Clone DVD mobile) & have 300 songs & still have 4gb free - How much media do you actually need for a holiday / train journey / flight etc? Highly Recommended!!!
New Ipod Nano - Wow September 25, 2007 M. White (UK) 30 out of 32 found this review helpful
Just got my new ipod nano yesterday and what a leap forward from the previous nano. I wasn't sure about the dimensions from the pictures I liked my old slim nano but when you get it the new nano really is small and pocketable. It is a very tactile devices you just long to touch it. I have loaded music on it and the upgrade in interface is great. It make such a difference to the whole experiencing showing the album art as well when choosing music and the coverflow option is a nice touch for scrolling through your songs. The screen is truly amazing and I have uploaded some movies on already and you could happily watch a whole movie on a plane on it or catch up on missed TV programmes if you have a PVR. To convert files to watch on your ipod there is a nice piece of free software called GP3 Converter which will do the job. You will have to rip DVDs into a compact format first but there are lots of good programmes to do that (DVDFab) So all in music, movies, family photos and increased functionality and improved interface for not much money the new ipod nano ticks all my boxes.
Another Apple winner October 25, 2007 ChrisG (Oxford, England) 26 out of 28 found this review helpful
This really is a fantastic little player, it's so thin you have to see it to believe it. Slips into your pocket and you hardly know it's there! It has a solid feel to it too so despite it being thin it's not flimsy. The screen is bright and clear and perfect for music videos and tv episodes (not sure I'd want to watch a full length film on it though) and the sound quality is as good as my 30gb video iPod; the complaints I've heard about a drop in quality seem a bit unjustified. The new small click wheel is easy to use and seems to be made of a more hard wearing plastic than the ones on previous iPods. It has excellent battery life and charges quickly (3 hours charge gives about 28-30 hours playtime). The cover flow function is okay but a bit sluggish if you have a lot of music on it, I think this is better suited to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The aluminium front panel looks better than the old plastic covers although I'm not so sure why Apple chose to go back to the 'scratch magnet' mirrored back panels again; it would have looked much better with the all round metal finish of the previous Nano. Minor gripes aside this is a wonderful little device and highly recommended.
My opinion September 8, 2007 Matt Ledger (Ipswich, UK) 55 out of 62 found this review helpful
I just read Mr Pickles review so thought I ought to give my alternative opinion and also point out that my suspicion is that he has not actually used the new nano's! I admit that in pictures the new nano's proportions look a little odd but when you get your hands on it it starts to make sense, the key is size of the body, at only 6.5mm thin it feels really stunning and looks great. It is also good to note that the price of the new 8GB nano (WITH VIDEO PLAYBACK!!) is the same price as the previous nano was for 4GB! The new video playback feature of the nano did worry me a little as the screen is only 2 inches diagonally but it turns out that the screen has exactly the same number of pixels as the iPod video's screen had so still looks really good. The battery is also able to play up to 5 hours of video which is really nice or up to 24 houers of music (which is more than I will ever need!) The final thing to mention is the new Cover Flow feature which lets you flick through your album covers to find music (not really a reason to buy the iPod but looks really cool!)
