Cityboy, a perfect cocktail that hits all the right notes July 2, 2008 Kulsum (London) 12 out of 18 found this review helpful
I love this book, its riveting, bright, confrontational of the people that work in the Square Mile and honest down to the wire perfect. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a good laugh and to anyone who thinks that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Cityboy will enlighten you in so many ways that you will be left laughing at the end of each page and hoping that the book doesn't finish ever. The fact that it is perfectly honest is an admirable quality in the man that wrote it, and this is reflected from the first page, the travels to Goa, Ibiza and South America illustrating how an environment can change a person. Seeking not revenge but the need to prove to himself that he is just as capable as a flashy stockbroker and that Hugo was just human (maybe not totally human, as he sounds like a monster), and can be challenged. This is the best book that I have read in a long long time and I would recommend this to anyone for any purpose, you can take from it lessons in life, lessons of work and colleague maintenance and have a giggle with it. If there was ever to be a male version of Sex and the City, this would be it. Good job Cityboy, can't wait to read the next thing he writes.
Bloody Brilliant July 21, 2008 D. L. Anderton (UK) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I couldn't care less if this book is about fact or fiction. All I know is that I bought it at the airport and red 150 pages while waiting in the departure lounge. Another 100 pages on the plane, and a final 53 pages before going to sleep. Any book that keeps me reading has got to be worth a look.
City worker, beware.... July 29, 2008 C. Askew 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
What I find rather hilarious is that 90% of the negative reviews written about this book are written by past and present city workers who are obviously furious at the brutal, honest and hilarious portrayal of the average city 'fat cats' that Geraint has achieved so immaculately. I would tell anyone else to not be swayed by these negative reviews - the book is truly unique and will make you laugh until it hurts. Its definately one on the funniest things I have read in a long time, and I salute Geraint for taking the courage to walk away from it all and expose the b******s for what they really are.
Cityboy Rules! June 22, 2008 tabitha jones (UK) 6 out of 14 found this review helpful
Managed to get an early copy. Genuinely, one of the funniest books I've read for years and a real eye-opener about what goes on in the City.
I loved this book, it is so true September 16, 2008 kiwi girl (New Zealand) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am married to a research analyst and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is so true what Geraint writes about life in the financial markets. The brutality of the hours, he explains well the huge highs and lows experienced by those connected to this industry. He is a brilliant writer and has some very thought provoking observations to make. Thank you Geraint for writing such an honest but entertaining account of your experiences.
