Excellent dark comedy drama October 2, 2007 Rebecca A. Maclaren (Germany) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I won't waste too much time telling you what this movie is about...you must really see it for yourself. This movie made an impact on me because of the way Robin Williams totally stepped out of his normally over-the-top characterizations and into a character that was absolutely believable. As a married woman I was captured by the love and commitment for his wife (actress Holly Hunter) and the sincerety he portrayed in this role. Holly was phenomenal...totally believable and captivating. The other actors were great too. I loved this movie because it captivated me the whole time, was never boring, was not predictable and had great acting and a superb script that was totally believable, interesting and humorous.
an unusual but mostly unsuccessful comedy set in Alaska June 10, 2007 dan the fan (england,uk) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased The Big White because it was filmed in Alaska, starred Robin Williams and I thought it would be a comedy with a bit of a difference. It certainly was different and at times very funny but its attempts to give the viewer a soft spot in their heart for Robin Williams,on account of him needing to commit crimes on behalf of a wife who had developed a severe mental disability and who needed a top doctor to treat her, didn't work.A pity because I could tell that with a better script the chemistry between Holly Hunter - who played Williams' wife - and Williams was strong enough to have had the potential to develop into a more convincing and,for the viewer,a more involving relationship
Best Film I have seen for a long time August 13, 2006 I am Statto! (Liverpool, UK) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is one of those films that slips off the radar, it is brilliant. It does live up to its comparison with Fargo, but is equally good if not better. Robin Williams plays the lead in a fantastic understated way that really has you rooting for him. A good ensemble piece with great contributions from all involved. Dont know why it has not had more press, it certainly deserves a higher profile, watch it now!
