Amazon.co.uk Review Movies based on computer games generally aren't well respected, but just because they aren't high art doesn't mean they can't be highly enjoyable. The only catch is that you need to be a fan of computer games to appreciate them. Resident Evil: Extinction is the third movie in the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, and it's probably the best one yet. Between Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Extinction, the zombie-creating T-virus has spread far beyond the doomed Raccoon City; now the human race is almost extinct (hence the title). When a convoy of survivors meets up with the genetically-altered Alice, the shadowy Umbrella Corporation does everything in its power to take them down and reclaim her; but Alice isn't giving up without a fight... Resident Evil: Extinction is part zombie movie, and part post-apocalyptic survival yarn. The big set pieces use CGI that doesn't look anything like reality, but does look very much like a computer game, which is possibly intentional--since this is a sequel to an adaptation, Resident Evil: Extinction does tend to assume a built-in audience which is already familiar with the various quirks of the franchise. If you're a fan of the games, you'll enjoy the various references to game characters and events; if not, you might feel a bit left out. It's not the best entry point to the franchise if you're a complete newcomer, but if you've seen the other films, it's a hell of a lot of fun. -- Sarah Dobbs

Even more brainless brilliance! March 22, 2008 D. Jackson (UK) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
The Resident Evil series has never really been very popular- that's why I'm so glad the third installment has enjoyed a surprising amount of mainstream success. Alice is back- the kickass b***h, now with added super-powers! The world has been overrun with a deadly zombie infection, and again, we focus on a small band of 'lucky' survivors on their way to safety. Cue plenty of action, gore, awesome special effects, and Milla Jovovitch. Please, do not watch this film expecting intelligence, a mind-bending plot, realistic characterization and whatever else. People degrading the film in those departments: Go away and watch something else, because this film isn't about all that. After an OK original and a sloppy second, Extinction has brought the Resident Evil franchise to a whole new level, and now I really cant wait until number 4!
Excellent Movie February 28, 2008 Yanek (GLASGOW, Scotland) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Having watched and enjoyed the first two Resident Evil movies, I was keen to see this third instalment, and am happy to say it is brilliant development of the story. I am a fan of Milla Jovovich, and think that she plays the role of Alice perfectly, and becomes a strong focal point throughout the Resident Evil series. If you enjoyed the first two movies in the Resident Evil series, you will love "Extinction". In contrast to the previous movies, "Extinction" takes place in daylight, and in a sweltering desert landscape. This immediately gives the film a new dynamic. The scare factor is still evident, although presented in a far more subtle way. There are some clever twists in the storyline, which are good to see. This movie looks visually stunning, and features some great camera work and editing. Unlike its prequel (Apocalypse), this new movie doesn't feature as much of Milla's Martial Arts skill - although her blade work in the fight scenes will still impress. It is a shame that Milla Jovovich is criticised so much about her acting, because she does produce a great performance in the lead role. The supporting cast are also excellent. This helped to develop a bond between the characters, which certainly engages the viewer far more. If you were not a fan of "zombie" movies, I would still recommend seeing "Extinction". It is an entertaining watch, and the movie soundtrack is great too. I loved this movie and am now looking forward to the next one! Yanek
Best of the 3 January 21, 2008 M. Cass (Northamptonshire,England) 13 out of 22 found this review helpful
ill be honest i thought Resident Evil was great and i thought Resident Evil Apocalypse was ok even though alot of people thought it was crap, i personaly thought it was entertaining, except the zombies, when in large groups the way the director filmed it, it looked very cheap. So i was in no rush to see Resident Evil-Extinction at the cinema but im glad i did! This film is fantastic and one of the only films i am excited about comming out on DVD! The film i thought was like MADMAX meets George A. R's Land of The Dead, the acting's ok but i always thought Jovovich was a bit pants, she should stick to being a model. But there's plenty of zombies, gore and quite a few jumpy scenes within this film, i would agree with the other reviewer this is the best video game to film ive seen so far...Dont be hung up about Resident Evil-Apocalypse, EXTINCTION deffinatly makes up for it in the end!
Brilliant, Action Packed,Zombies,Milla Jovovich January 27, 2008 koi chan (I don't know) 11 out of 20 found this review helpful
Ok heres an honest review from somebody who isn't a resi game fanboy 1. The movies are nothing like the game, you want the game story go play the game, you want the movie story then watch the movie, what would be the point of releasing the movie the same as the game when people already know the story, it's true game fanboys have no brain. 2.If you don't like them why watch them, it's called common sense. 3. This movie is a great fun follow up to apocalypse with more action, special effects and more Milla Jovovich. 4. I love these movies, i just ordered the blu ray Resident evil trilogy boxset of here from the u.s for 50 Any how i hoped this helped you.
I Thoroughly enjoy this!!! January 19, 2008 A. Hislop (England) 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
Although I enjoyed Resident Evil: Apocalypse, I can see why people don't like it. It was a long way from what the games are - but i look to be entertained and all the films entertain me! If your a fan of superhero films, you'll will also enjoy this, due to Alice's superhuman abilities (Phoenix style from X-Men). However, they handle her abilities really well, decideing to making them a detail rather than a main point of the film. The characters are good, introducing new survivors that arrive by convoy. The have found that keeping moving is the best way of staying alive. The film is set a few years after the second and manages to build on what has taken place and what the umbrella company is. Showing us that simply blowing them up isn't enough to defeat them - because they are everywhere. You'll understand when you watch it... Roll on number 4!!!! Enjoy
