Amazon.co.uk Review
Three seasons into Supernatural and brothers Sam and Dean Winchester are still attracting trouble. For the pair have a talent for battling the kind of spirits and creatures that are best kept locked away in nightmares--and it's fair to say their journey has taken its toll on them.

As we join them in the third season of Supernatural, their travels and adventures take in a mixture of increasingly intriguing threats and foes. Among the highlights is a man who has become trapped within his own mind, the day that Sam continually has to live over and over again (Groundhog Day style) and a sinister threat to Dean that underpins much of the series. Not forgetting a Christmas episode with a bit of a different feel to it than your usual festive special...

While the series was shortened a little due to the writers' strike that was ongoing in America while it was being made, the sixteen episodes in this Supernatural boxset nonetheless offer ample entertainment. Cleverly weaving together action, comedy and horror, it builds and improves on the second season, and while it may rush things a little come the finale, it's still a terrific and underrated programme. Here's looking forward to season four. --Jon Foster

5 out of 5 stars outstanding series with extras   August 29, 2008

This box set consists of 5 discs, the full contingent of 16 episodes (damn the writers strike). With lots of extras. There is:

- a gag reel (although some of them are now looking staged for the purpose rather than true errors);

- a short film called from legacy to reality (look at the special effects);

- a featurette on the impala (metallicar history and how they kitted it out to make it special);

- a Ghostfacers confessional (I know that this isn't a popular episode with some but I like it);

- a number of "a closer look" featurettes (one for almost every episode);

Missing, however, are the commentaries and the "filming with Jensen and Jared" featurette, and extra blooper reel which my friend in the US said are on there's.

This is my favourite series (sorry CSI NY you came a close second).

Summary of show: Firstly (and obviously) this season 3 (if you haven't got them I would suggest that you purchase the first 2 seasons so you know what's happened and what's going on).

The deal that Dean made in "all hell breaks loose" is due for payment at the end of this season, and as we travel the road with Sam and Dean we watch them try to come to terms with what's going to happen. One again (as usual with Kripke productions) we see new characters introduced, the return of some favourites.

I have to say I like the idea of the demon Lilith, although Katie Cassidy's demon "Ruby" does tend to get on my nerves (and I can't put my finger on why). I did find that I 'sort of' liked the character of Bella.

Out of the episdes my personal favourites are:

#3 - Bad day at Black Rock - the boys find that dad, John, had a storage unit after it is broken in to (this is the only mention of it in this season). They then go in search of the missing item.

#11 - Mystery Spot - after the initial shock, when I realised what was going on, I started to laugh. Poor Dean.

#13 - Ghostfacers - Ed and Harry are back with a mickey take on Most Haunted et al.

I recommend Supernatural as my secret pleasure.

5 out of 5 stars The best season of Supernatural   May 17, 2008

Finally this series has hit it's stride. I've seen all of the episodes on ITV2 and they are superb. The first series ripped off too many horror films for my liking and as a result it was very average. The two leads and the cool car kept me watching! The second season was a huge improvement but it still contained the odd clunker. The third series doesn't have a bad episode (the new charachters are well received) and it has a excellent season arc that continues from the season 2 finale. The central idea is that Dean will die in a year from now (the first episode of this series) Along the way we have a demented Christmas episode, a groundhog day style show, a Vampire hunter turned vampire, the seven deadly sins and much much more. My favourite episode is situated in a prison. Dean and Sam have been arrested and a horde of Demons is on it's way...first class

5 out of 5 stars The best thing on TV   May 9, 2008

Supernatural is the best thing on TV at the moment. It is well scripted, imaginative, intelligent, brilliantly acted (especially Jensen Ackles)and it has very high production values. They also manage to inject a lot of humour into the otherwise quite dark storylines. Fabulous soundtrack too. The production team says that in every episode they're making a little movie, and I would have to agree. I own seasons 1 and 2 already and they are some of my most often watched DVDs. I have pre-ordered season 3.

5 out of 5 stars It just gets better and better....   August 25, 2008

I have been a fan of this show since Season one. But as much as I liked the first season, I thought the show might run out of steam. Thats because it blatantly ripped off almost every horror cliche you can think of (you could be forgiven for thinking that sort of thing happens towards the end of a show's lifetime as the writers start to dry up on ideas?!). So its pretty impressive to see that this show just gets better and better as the seasons progress. So what do I like about this season? No filler, more action, more gore, and more hot chicks....oh, yeah the storyline is pretty good too. Its a pity there aren't more episodes, but we all know why that is. Go out and buy it. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Short but ever so sweet!!!   June 8, 2008

I agree with the other viewers that it's such a shame that the season had to be cut short and that there was a hiatus...oh the pain!
I feel that the finale suffered because of it and there is less flow to the season as a result. However, if you do take each episode as it comes there are some truly amazing moments.
Season 3 could be very angsty but it has some great comedy moments with Bad day at Black Rock being a personal fave. LOL
Another mention has to go to the genius of Mystery Spot, just a great idea. Then The Xmas episode was so cute.
There were some low points, Ghostfacers could have been better and Bedtime Stories was a little lame. I didn't much like Ruby either but found that i loved Bela (i think I may be the only one!).
One of the best episodes to date in the entire show has to be Time Is On My Side. It's not that it's particularly genius but it has everything it needs in it. I think that the producers and writers are finally listening to us. Dean headbutting, Sam rescuing the damsel in distress, gore, action, sadness...it rocked in so many ways, but why does Sam keep his shirt on throughout? (just a thought!)

As ever, I love the show and will continue to obssess over all the minutae of plot and where it's all heading in Season 4. What can I say about Jared and Jensen? Nothing that you're not already thinking....swoon...sigh and gasp! They just keep getting hotter and hotter til you're singing Dead or Alive at the top of your lungs with them.
Keep up the good work Kripke and make sure you treat our boys nicely in Season 4!!!!
