The umpteenth love triangle; only better! August 2, 2010 Bart (The Netherlands) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Why better? Because Julianne Moore plays lead character. As far as I'm concerned, any film she features in is a sure winner. JM posesses an affluence which lets her slip smoothly into almost any role. She lived up to my expactations in 'Chloe'. Carbon-copy plot, as always when three's a crowd in a relationship. Nevertheless it had been worked out eloquently. Director Atom Egoyan had done his superiors proud. Although predictible as the next love-triangle, it managed to captivate me, let me symphatise with Catherine (Julianne Moore) and made me wish David (Liam Neeson) would get his comeuppance. Floozy Chloe (Amanda Seyfried) sashayed through the picture, having it off alternately with both spouses. All concerned worked towards a rather surprising ending. I, for one, hadn't expected it to be the way it turned out. I'd like to highlight the appearance of Max Thieriot here. He plays Michael, Catherine and David's son. He does so admirably. I think he's a promising young actor. I feel he deserves a more prominent place among the picture's credits. Great views of Toronto, superb score and many extras on the disc compliment this production.
Challenging and Provoking July 7, 2010 Neil STUART BANKS (North Bucks, England) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
In the wrong hands, this story could have been a top-shelf, soft porn turkey. But, what we have here is a well-paced, beautifully acted, provocative erotic thriller. I nearly didn't use the term "erotic thriller" because that genre has almost nothing to commend it. This is very different.
The script is literate, challenging and never predictable. Julianne Moore's performance is stunning and it is a tribute to the film's quality that when the two leading ladies kiss, it is touching and believable rather than a "ooh Matron" moment.
The final shot still had me thinking about its meaning a week later.
Mamma mia! - no more May 30, 2010 PJ Rankine (Wallington, Surrey United Kingdom) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Well Amanda Seyfried has come a long way from playing the innocent daughter in 'Mamma Mia!' If you thought kissing Megan Fox in 'Jennifer's Body' was a step in the right direction wait till you see her not only get naked but down and dirty with Julianne Moore in this erotic thriller come romance. Julianne Moore plays a successful doctor who suspects that her flirtatious husband (Liam Neeson) is playing away and employs Seyfried's escort Chloe as a honeytrap. As Chloe regales her with what her husband is getting up to she finds herself not only relating to him in a whole new way but also becoming attracted to Chloe. Despite the very attractive love scene between the two leading ladies this is a well written and beautifully acted film set against Toronto in winter. The cast do a fine job, every scene is beautifully framed and shot and it is presented in full screen. Miss Seyfried is doing very well at the moment and this film will do nothing to tarnish her ever improving portfolio, watch it.
Very good and clever film September 1, 2010 ASH I think some of the reviews are very wrong. To give this film 2 stars is ridiculous.
Firstly, the film has three top actors/actresses: julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried.
The film was very clever and works very well. I would hate to ruin the film for any potential buyers so will ignore too much detail regards the stroyline. It basically involves Chloe (Amanda Seyfried) getting involved in a family's life as the mother of the family (Julianne Moore) suspects her husband is cheating on her.
I really enjoyed the film and the storyline was great. You also get to see Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried undressed which is not a bad thing! I also disagree with reviews that say thej acting is bad... the acting was fantastic, particularly from Julianne Moore and Seyfried!!!!
Overall I rate the film 8/10 and is a film you can re-watch unlike some
Erotic Thriller August 8, 2010 prisrob (New England USA) A simple premise for a film, marriage gone stale, wife feels threatened, husband is overworked and over stressed. Wife, in this case, is Julianne Moore, and husband is Liam Neeson. What could be wrong?
Julianne plays Dr Catherine Stewart, an Ob/Gyn. Her husband is David, a college professor. Catherine suspects David of having affairs with his students, and she hires a professional call girl played by Amanda Seyfried. Catherine wants Chloe to entice David to see if he has an interest in an affair. The entire substance of this seems so far-fetched. Chloe reports the conversations and action back to Catherine and apparently they are a turn on to Catherine. In the midst of this, Catherine and David's son who is an intelligent musically gifted son. However, his mother has interfered in his life and it seems he will not forgive her. He brings his girlfriends into the home and they stay overnight. Communication of any kind seems to be gone. At one point Catherine admits she would do anything for her son. At this point as the film becomes complicated, the action picks up. Emotions run high and life becomes difficult. Catherine is acting out of control and control is something she must have. David is confused and wonders what is going on in their lives. This family whose life has been stale comes undone and tragedy ensues. The ending is really anti-climatic, but the graduation party of the son brings to light an interesting object and we wonder have we misjudged the entire film.
