Amazon.co.uk Review After building up the duo's popularity through popular recordings and several performances on Saturday Night Live, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd--as "legendary" Chicago blues brothers Jake and Elwood Blues--took their act to the big screen in this action-packed hit from 1980. As Jake and Elwood struggle to reunite their old band and save the Chicago orphanage where they were raised, they wreak enough good-natured havoc to attract the entire Cook County police force. The result is a big-budget stunt-fest on a scale rarely attempted before or since, including extended car chases that result in the wanton destruction of shopping malls and more police cars than you can count. Along the way there's plenty of music to punctuate the action, including performances by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway and James Brown that are guaranteed to knock you out. As played with deadpan wit by Belushi and Aykroyd, the Blues Brothers are "on a mission from God", and that gives them a kind of reckless glee that keeps the movie from losing its comedic appeal. Otherwise, this might have been just a bloated marathon of mayhem that quickly wears out its welcome (which is how some critics described this film and its 1998 sequel). Keep an eye out for Steven Spielberg as the city clerk who stamps some crucial paperwork near the end of the film. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

A true cult movie February 20, 2005 Duncan McLeod (Bogota, Colombia) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
The best of the SNL spin-offs. John Landis (he of 'Trading Places', 'Animal House' and 'An American Werewolf in London' fame) creates one of the best comedy/musical films of all time. Its true that not everyone finds this film funny (my cat got up and walked out halfway through but everyone else was rolling in the aisles) however I'll guarantee they'll be jiving along to the musical set pieces! Don't just settle with adding this to your wish list. Buy it. Now. Go on then...
'Joilet' Jake and Elwood Blues October 11, 2002 Mr Donald Stewart 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Blues Brothers is a brilliant film, for car chases, for music and comedy. After the release of Jake Blues(John Belushi) from prison, he and his brother Elwood(Dan Aykroyd) go to visit the orphanage where they were raised by nuns. They learn that the church stoped it's support and will sell the place unless the tax on the property is paid within 11 days. Jake and Elwood decide to raise the money by getting the Blues Brothers Band back together and do a huge gig. Elwood says 'Were on a misson from God' but they are making enemies everywhere they go. Elwood is a good driver when it comes to escaping from the police. The Blues Brothers is a film everyone must see.

The ultimate in cool entertainment! October 20, 2003 F. V. L. Buliciri (London, UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
The Blues Brothers will always stand the test of time as one of the best film comedies ever made. It combines talent in the form of the late John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd, hilarious and unforgettable scenes, great music and musical numbers and an impressive star cast as John Candy, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Twiggy, Steven Spielberg, John Lee Hopper and Carrie Fisher in the film. Jake(John Belushi)is freed from jail and he and his brother (Elwood)visit the school run by nuns that they attended as children. They discover that it's due to shutdown due to a lack of government funding. Therefore they embark on a 'mission from God,'to raise the money needed to save it from closure and they resurrect their former band to perform in a benefit concert to save the school. I love this film and the music throughout it is excellent. I found myself clapping and tapping my feet to the Blues Brothers band and all the musical artists featured. The Blues Brothers is electric, vibrant, outrageously funny and a must see film which I highly recommend to everyone.
It's got a lot of pick up... September 21, 2001 Christopher Hogarth (Scotland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The sheer brilliance of Ackroyd and Belushi's deadpan humour is a tribute to what could have been the best comedy act of the 1980's were it not for Belushi's untimely death. The movie is filled with a soul that shines through in all performances, for me the classic moment is when Aretha Franklin and the girls are doing 'Think', Jake & Elwood are pictured motionless at the bar, then in the next dance sequence, there they are, givin it everything!...
