Amazon.co.uk Review
Although it's been three years since we last saw Bridget (Renee Zellweger), only a few weeks have passed in her world. She is, as you'll remember, no longer a "singleton," having snagged stuffy but gallant Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) at the end of the 2001 film. Now she's fallen deeply in love and out of her neurotic mind with paranoia: Is Mark cheating on her with that slim, bright young thing from the law office? Will the reappearance of dashing cad Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) further spell the end of her self-confidence when they're shoved off to Thailand together for a TV travel story? If such questions also seem pressing to you, this sequel will be fairly painless, but you shouldn't expect anything fresh. Director Beeban Kidron and her screenwriters--all four of them!--are content to sink matters into slapstick, with chunky Zellweger (who's unflatteringly photographed) the literal butt of all jokes. Though the star still has her charms, and some of Bridget's social gaffes are amusing, the film is mired in low comedy--a sequence in a Thai women's prison is more offensive than outrageous--with only Grant's rakish mischief to pull it out of the swamp. --Steve Wiecking

5 out of 5 stars Bridget Jones. Edge of Reason   February 10, 2005

I have not read the books but have seen both films. The first one I thought, had its moments, but I went to the cinema to see the second one and thought it was hilarious, I went with two friends and we were laughing from start to finish, as was most of the other cinema goers. In my opinion, you have to listen carefully to the script to appreciate the fuuny moments in this film but it is most definately worth listening to. In conclusion, if you have seen the first Bridget Jones film and liked it then you will love the second one.

This film is great! Funny, witty and light-hearted! It's not the most realistic or in-depth film ever, but fantastic for a giggle (I couldn't stop laughing throughout!). Watch it over and over again and enjoy!

This is a great sequel to Bridget Jones' Diary. Although some of the jokes are repeated, they are still funny the second time round.
The film starts in the same place as the first one, her Mum's turkey curry buffet, but this time Bridget and Mark are together (complete with snowman jumpers!). After telling us that she's found her happy ending, and nothing could go wrong, obviously things start going wrong, and things aren't helped by the appaearance of Rebecca, a 22 year old with legs up to "here" and the reappearance of Daniel Cleaver. Throw in more scary underwear, a stay in prison, a pregnancy scare and a skiing trip, and this is the perfect film to relax to.

5 out of 5 stars bridget is even better on her second time..   February 22, 2005

contrary to popular belief, i think that this film was even better than its predecessor. although it does stray from the diary format slightly, and becomes slightly less realistic i think that in a way this adds to the energy and humor of the film

another improvement from the previous film is the way in which it tries to reach out to a male audience. many of my male friends, who were bored to tears at the first film, were greatly impressed by this one and enjoyed certain bits immensely (especially the girl on girl kiss...)

the edge of reason does have some of the slightly mellower bits as well. the scene in which Bridget and Mark break up captures perfectly the atmosphere of such a situation, and has the audience feeling the emotions of the characters

Hugh Grant is probably the best thing about this film. his daniel cleaver has been transformed more from an evil baddie who hurts bridget to a more rouge like character, with some of the best one-liners possible. he is also far more sexy than Firth, making many of my female friends will bridget to go back to him, rather than be true to darcy!

all in all this film is full of fun and silliness, but like the previous one captures what it is to be a single (ish) woman today.

5 out of 5 stars Worthy sequel to the first film.   February 27, 2005

Bridget Jones is back, and at last can attend her mothers annual turkey curry buffet with a man in tow. This film begins six weeks after the end of the last movie. Bridget is madly in lust/love with Mark Darcy, and at last life seems to be giving her a break. In true Bridget style however, the path of true love cannot run smoothly and the cringeworthy but hilarious mishaps come thick and fast.
Also back on the scene is the unreliable, conceited Daniel Cleaver. Will he manage to come between Bridget and Mark again? Watch and see. This is a terrific film...funny, heartwarming, and isn't it great to see a 'normal' sized woman get the hunk!
