Beautiful February 22, 2008 Time and Tide (France) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Kate Beckinsale does the difficult job of doing Jane Austen's spoilt heroine justice. A lovely, subtle film - makes the Paltrow version look pretty awful!
Badly Done Emma.....Badly Done August 23, 2007 vessie@oz (Australia) 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
Having seen and own both the Kate Beckinsale and Gwyneth Paltrow versions. I must say that I like them both and have seen them more then once. This version has the Regency look and feel and I rather like Mark Strong performance of Mr Knightley. Andrew Davies has done a wonderful job on the screen play as he almost often does. Anyone that enjoys Jane Austen will enjoy this production. A must have for anyones DVD collection.
Superb March 6, 2008 Mme Janet Wilson (Lot et Garonne, France) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This version of Emma, in my view, is far superior to the film featuring Gwyneth Paltrow. All the characters were perfectly cast, especially the always excellent Prunella Scales. An absolutely first-class production that is impossible to fault. A superb DVD to add to your collection.
Must have. March 10, 2008 N. T. Diep (London - UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own both this and the Paltrow version & have also watched the nasty 1972 Doran Godwin version, but I must say I much prefer this one. I feel Beckenslade portrays Emma very well & it does have a more 'English' feel about it. The Paltrow one has the more sumptuous Hollywood feel, but nice in it's own way. I only own the Paltrow version for the gorgeous Mr Knightly. However if you were to have only 1 version then the Beckenslade one is the one to own.
Perfectly Cast! April 24, 2008 Elizabeth Simmons (Brentwood, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a fan of the Gweneth Paltrow version, however this adaptation exceeds it in many ways. Faithful to the book and the cast is excellent!! Much more believeable & more emotive, this would have to rate as my favourite Emma adaptation!
