2008 Best yet November 23, 2007 Mr. G. Oliver 56 out of 57 found this review helpful
Having tried Zone Alarm, Bullguard, McAfee, AVG and an older version of Norton I can say with some authoirty that this version of Norton is better than all of them. Why? Quite simply Norton have sorted out the speed - much faster. Buy with confidence. Just remember - remove all traces of previous security software. If you have McAfee - use their software removal tool - available to download on their website.
Pretty damn good! November 29, 2007 A. Stewart (Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom) 55 out of 57 found this review helpful
Well the time had come. My subscription to NIS 2007 was up. Hmm Do I renew or upgrade to NIS 2008? I decided to go with the latest version so I unistalled 2007, got the Norton removal tool and ran that. Seriously UNISTALL the previous version first, run the removal tool and you're all set to go. I've noticed NIS 2008 runs faster than NIS 2007 and takes up less resources. NIS 2006 was one of the most bloated software Norton had ever released. They've obviously listened and rewritten the code base because NIS 2008 runs like a dream. It's fast and speedy and just does what it says on the side of the tin. The only thing I don't like is that it makes every decision for you. I like to be in a bit more control although if you delve deeper into this software you can still tinker if you want. Having said that, all the default settings are sound so just leave well alone. This is pretty much install and forget as it does it all for you.
Big changes for the better! February 21, 2008 Gary Barnett 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I used to hate Norton for years with such a passion, I would tell everyone to stay away from it! However, NIS 2008 has changed that completely after trying out a trial version of NIS 2008. It feels light and nippy even on my 5 years old PC, which is so unlike the old, bloated, dinosaur AV software of Norton we once used to know! :p The biggest change is Norton's memory footprint and it is tiny! You do not notice it running in the background. From the Task Manager, Norton's biggest application is running at 13Kb as I type now! I have used AVG Free 7.5 for over a year and even with its basic features, it is actually much more bloated in comparison with Norton! Having a bloated Antivirus software that slows down your brand new computer is a no-no! In comparison with previous Norton software, NIS 2008 has no more annoying pop-ups every while and no complicated interface. It now has the clean and simple interface which you would figure out straightaway as soon as you opened it. This is an ideal security software for any family especially with the kids. Though I don't have any kids of my own, I am happy to stick it in my PC. If your experience has been fouled big-time by the previous Norton software, I can recommend you to try out a trial from Symantec site before you buy!
The Best from Norton yet !! January 15, 2008 nancherrow50 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Use Norton Removal Tool to clear out ALL Norton files. Remove Symantec from BOTH software locations in Registry. Then install N.I.S. 2008 - it`s a breeze and will not give you any problems !
Does what it says on the tin January 1, 2008 K. Howard (Leeds, UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
My computer came with McAffe security but only as a temporary version. I uninstalled this first, then followed the Norton instructions to install this 2008 version. Very easy set up and so far i've had no problems whatsoever. I think people start having problems when they skip bits or try to be smart about installing software. Just follow the instructions.. I fully recommend it.
