Amazon.co.uk Review
Largely, er, "inspired" by German director Wim Wenders' classic fable Wings of Desire, this heavenly melodrama features a high watermark for overwrought modern pop-song scores. U2's "If God Will Send His Angels" might just certify their on-the-sleeve spirituality as moribund, while Alanis Morissette's radio hit "Uninvited" conjures the frightening spectre of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" (fronted by a teenage Celine Dion-in-training), making the efforts of vets Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Peter Gabriel, and Eric Clapton sound downright Mancini-esque by comparison. Veteran composer Gabriel Yared finds himself ghettoized on the disc's final tracks, but then he only scored the film. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars This music feels like a kiss from your guardian angel   May 1, 2002

This soundtrack is so true to the story of the film , it also stands alone as a masterpiece as a sort of concept CD. Anyway the lowdown: Sarah Maclachlan's 'Angel' and Alanis Morissettes 'Uninvited' give virtuoso performances. It's a consistent CD every track is either cool, rocking, or melancholy. The last 4 tracks are my fave by Gabriel Yared who won an Oscar for his score on 'The English Patient' he also scored the music for 'Betty Blue' Message in A Bottle' and 'The Lover' , The 14th track ( City OF Angels ) is so emotive climaxing in a crescendo of Angels screaming in a mass falsetto of heartbreak and lament.
There is nothing to compare it to with exception to ' Passion / The Last Temptation Of Christ'.
I recommend this to anyone as its musical variation , lyrical consistency , and EFFECT is timeless , buy it today and I can guarantee you will be buying some of the other stuff from the compilation of artists who appear on this soundtrack.

Someone once wrote of Guardian Angels , that it is the flapping of Angels wings that makes our heartbeat and when your heart is broken they take you soul to God so he can reincarnate you in to a new host so you have another chance of finding truelove.

Whoever wrote it must have had this CD.

5 out of 5 stars what a stunning soundtrack...   September 11, 2002

In the movie the soundtrack seems to be rather good. nothing really stunning... until you hear it in isolation.I am a real soundtrack fan- and in the least cases do I appreciate the mix of original songs and musical score. In this case I will make an exception; the mix is perfect. Some great songs and performances ( Sarah leading the way there) with perfect scored themes by Yared.
Not only for soundtrack fans... It is a must for music lovers.

A superb album of great songs, many of which are epic 'reflective' songs.

One of the best has to be Angel which is so sad yet so amazing to listen to.

However this song i really do think is the best on the album and one of my favourite songs of all time. Before this album i had never heard of the Goo Goo Dolls.

Iris is a true classic

A timeless album... I bought it for the song by Sarah McLachlan (Angel) and it was worth it for that one track which is so beautiful that it never fails to make me stop and stare. The rest of the album follows suit, particularly Peter Gabriel (I Grieve). If you like music to think to, this is for you.

This Album is fantastic. I loved the film and the way the music complimented perfectly every mood and event. This has to be one of my all time favourites. I have watched the film twice and intend to watch it again just to hear this soundtrack once more.
