6 all-stars who all manage to put music first.
You could argue, that the album is too clean or a bit sterile, but I like the way you can easily hear each instrument allthrough the recording. It's very well balanced, melodic in a sort of minimalistic way, as well as being true to the original songs, as it never seems to loose touch with them.
Among my most treasured jazz albums, and it doesn't seem to ever get old.

4 out of 5 stars the man is undoubtedly a genius...   November 1, 2000

this a fascinating album by a genius not only of his instrument, but of music - full stop. don't be put of by my description of this as merely 'fascinating' - it is also intriguing, funky, swinging, frustrating, wonderful...

3 out of 5 stars A Curate's Egg   August 20, 2004

Not surprisingly, Norwegian Wood fares the worst as a 'new standard', while all the others make it. Thank God it was not Fool on a Hill, or Yesterday. I think it is a superb concept - though not new - well executed and enjoyable to listen to though there are no outstanding moments.
