5 out of 5 stars Got one for Yule 2006, and I love it.   January 13, 2007

For Yule 2006 I recieved one of these toys as a gift. It appears to be the second revision of the Sonic Screwdriver pen, as it has David Tenant on the packaging and comes with batteries.

It is very well constructed, with nice molded texturing on the barrel (which makes it comfortable, if a bit large to write with), a sliding button that does not move around too readily, so once it's open it stays open, and good heft. The sound chip's volume is loud yet not annoyingly so, and the brightness of the UV LED is perfect for the UV-sensitive ink as well as detecting UV-reactive objects (hint: betta fish are not UV reactive, but many dishwashing detergents are).

I plan on using it as a cosplay prop in the near future, and I'm pleased enough with it that I even carry it around with me from time to time. It was quite a hit at a _Doctor Who_ marathon I attended a few weeks ago.

I do have one request, though: Please start carrying the replacement nibs for this product. At some point they're going to run out, and I'd like to easily get new ones at such time.

5 out of 5 stars Sonic Screwdriver?   May 11, 2007

Well, I bought this two years ago, when Chris Eccleston was still on the packaging - I had to buy the batteries separately, but it was worth it! I have not changed the batteries since, and it has endured heavy use and they are only just beginning to fail now! It really is fantastic! There have been a few versions of the Sonic Screwdriver, the first (mine) was fairly simple - it came with a little "Doctor Who" pad and 2 nibs. The second version was the same, albeit with a more accurate sonic screwdriver - the colour was improved, and the "cracks" were also more detailed. Version three is the same BUT it comes with wipe-clean pyschic paper instead of the pad (INFINETLY cooler).
A rather fantastic toy, really, for one of any age! (I am a 14-year old boy and bought one for my friend's 15th birthday, and she loves it!!)

5 out of 5 stars Sonic My Screwdriver   August 25, 2007

I think many people confuse this Electronic Sonic Screwdriver with the LED Torch. The Electronic Sonic Screwdriver is much better; sounds, blue light, movable, durable and practically every Whovian's wish come true. I've had mine for about 6 months or so now and I drop it nearly every time I'm defeating invisible Daleks in my garden; however, only a few chips seem to appear upon it. It's a great piece of merchandise and something every fan should be proud of possessing. After completing this review, I'm off to defeat the Cybermen.
