Gorillapod - handy flexible tripod - which works! March 24, 2007 C. Hutton (Dorset, United Kingdom) 93 out of 94 found this review helpful
It really does work! I've had mine wrapped around the banisters, camera hanging over the side of the stairs, and it was tight and secure. The Gorillapod comes with a screw adapter giving you the ability to add a tripod head of your choice, which allows for more flexibility. I'd recommend buying the *SLR-Zoom* version if you have any kind of SLR or even bridge/hybrid camera, even if it doesn't exceed the weight limit of the *SLR* version. Once you add a tripod head, flash, maybe a bigger lens or lens extensions/filters, it adds quite a bit of weight. Better to be on the safe side! Great gadget to stuff in your bag for when a larger tripod just isn't practical.
Joby Gorillapod January 2, 2007 Angela R (Lincolnshire, England) 53 out of 54 found this review helpful
I bought the Joby Gorillapod for my husband for Christmas; he was thrilled and had never seen one before. It is an amazing 'bit of kit' and so flexible you can more or less attach it to anything. We've had hours of fun taking pictures of all the family; normally one of us gets left out, but now we can all be together in more family shots. This is bound to become a design icon of the future and really "does what it says on the tin". And a real bonus is that it's small enough to put in you coat pocket and weighs about 2oz. Just fantastic, highly recommended.
A must have for any SLR user November 20, 2007 Bullfrog (Scotland) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have an expensive, robust full size tripod which cost a small fortune. However as good as that tripod is, because of it's size and weight, it was always left at home, or in the boot of the car, and i never had it to hand when on occassions I needed it. That is now all a thing of the past as the Gorillapod SLR Zoom accompanies me where ever my camera goes. It is fantastic, and really does grip onto most things (lampposts, fence rails, climbing frames etc) No more problems when I am unable to hand hold the camera. You will need to buy a good ball and socket head to accompany this, but the gorillapod should be an essential for any serious photographer.

This is a great idea. A tripod with segmented legs that you can just bend into the position you want. It has some major advantages over a normal mini tripod. The main one for me is that it copes effortlessly with uneven surfaces that would make another tripod unstable. And you can squeeze it easily into awkward shaped places. It will, to some extent, cling to branches and things if you wrap the legs around them. But while slightly rubbery, there isn't enough grip to hold it steady on, say, a vertical post. There's a tiny adapter that you can screw onto your camera and leave there. Then your camera slots onto the tripod in a second. Very slick. The gorillapod weighs almost nothing and it's tiny, so you can put it in your shirt pocket. There aren't really any downsides, except that you should know this version is only for really small cameras like the Canon Ixus. Anything bigger will be too heavy (there are bigger gorillapods for bigger cameras). I wholeheartedly recommend it.
You'll use it a lot more than you'd ever expect May 21, 2007 Kimmietoe (London, UK) 26 out of 27 found this review helpful
This piece of gear is easy to take wherever you go, and allows you to secure your camera to almost anything for fantastic shots. I've got one for my compact, one for my SLR, and have been giving them to all the photo enthusiasts I know for gifts since I discovered them. Like most great things, they look simple but surprise you with how useful they are.
