This is the best game of this year. It's not without faults - character movement is poor, dialogues cannot be skipped and voice acting is dodgy, for instance. The gameplay and storyline more than carry the day. It doesn't require a super computer to run it.
The graphics are in black & white with splashes of colour. Very memorable and highly appropriate.
The story is set in a small fictitious seaside town in the UK. Players will be hunting ghosts as well as exploring the area. There is an air of menace to the game, but it's fingernail biting rather than jumping off the chair scary.
The conclusion doesn't close all the strands, but no matter the entertainment value is high.
It's a point-and-click adventure. It comes very highly recommended.

I was lucky enough to have managed to get an advance copy of this game, and admit to being remarkably impressed.
Jon Boakes has managed to capture the essence of Britain and encapsulate it within a quaint, yet at times chilling rural village and tell a series of very old chilling stories, woven as a tapestry into the subtext of this remarkable game, which spans over 60 hours of gameplay.
Borrowing from classic tales such as "A Warning to the Curious", we learn how one 'outsider' mystically a part of the village while also apart on his own 'quest' actually gets what he bargained for, only to be confronted with a choice - is a trasure often all that it seems? Is the world really 'black and white'? Do we always play 'goodies' as protagonists in Adventure Games?
After a clear history of scaring us with "DarkFall" and "Barrow Hill" and again chilling us, we see a game which is rich in story and highly detailed graphics with good use (and absence of) colour and tinting.
The ghosts in this game are definitely worth a mention - the WW2 billetted children playing hide and seek in the abandoned church... The black mist... The family in the cottage who seem normal enough until you learn of their fate later on in the game... The apple train... We see a constantly unravelling web of intrigue and learn that the ones we start to trust are in fact the voices of the past, moreso than those of the present.
And then there's the real story - that of the Lost Crown itself...But that would be telling.
Watch out for the cats. . .

The Lost Crown is a great, ghost-hunting adventure game for the PC. Fans of the classic ghost story or British Horror films, like The Wickerman or the Hammer classics, will love spotting references and soaking up the atmosphere the game provides during its 30+ hours of gameplay (a bargain at this price!). The puzzles are nice too, with most based either in modern-day ghost-hunting or logical real-world dilemmas. Being an adventure game means the styling is quite specific - the game is point-and-click driven, using the mouse, and there are few 'action' scenes to keep trigger fingers happy, but, if you are looking for something to really get into, and explore, The Lost Crown is perfect.
Written by Jonathan Boakes, creator of the Dark Fall series, the game is vividly set on the coastline of Britain, featuring many real-world locations. There are some nice websites, online, exploring the real-world locations, that are well worth looking into.
This provides a similar atmosphere to The Blair Witch project, a feeling that anything could happen in the 'real world', rather than fictional locations. Virtual tourism has never been so creepy, or unnerving, which is probably why Justadventure.com gave this game an impressive A+, that's 100%. In all honesty, there are a few rough edges, but they are easy to ignore, when a game is this engrossing, strange and downright spooky!

The Lost Crown is one of the very best adventure games that I have played for many years. I obtained a copy of an imported version of the game so I am lucky to have already played it prior to the UK release.
As the player character (Nigel Danvers), you explore locations throughout the game in a hunt for the lost Saxon crown. During your journey, you encounter many interesting and strange characters, lots of wonderful locations, creepy voices, ghosts, unexplained phenomenon and lots more.
I spent days and days playing this game and once I started, I just couldn't stop. The game evokes a range of emotions as you play. In much of the game you feel that `someone' is watching you and there are certainly plenty of moments during the game where you will simply `jump' out of your chair! The game has a wonderful creepy ambience (especially when you are playing at 2am with a 5.1 surround sound system or with headphones on). There are also many moments in the game where you will feel elated at solving puzzles or helping characters (and ghosts). I also admit that this is the first game that also brought a tear or two to my eye with a wonderful section helping some children (a credit to the wonderfully written story and dialog - I won't mention any more about this bit to avoid spoilers for those yet to play).
The characters are superb; you feel that you really get to know all of them as you progress throughout the game. You also obtain assistance from characters, essential at later points in the game whilst you are being chased by ghostly figures!
As the game character, you get to use many fantastic ghost hunting gadgets to find and communicate with lots of ghosts!
To sum up:
Graphics = superb. Wonderfully rendered, the game also feels alive with lots of 3D artwork and actors (birds, cats, wildlife, people, reeds swaying, rolling fog etc).
Sound = spectacular. The sound effects (footsteps, `over here' voices, ghostly sounds etc), eerie soundtrack and dialogs are amazing.
Game play = hours and hours of fun adventuring and hunting for ghosts.
If you love adventuring, solving mysteries, exploring beautiful locations and enjoy being frightened with lots of spooky encounters - you must play this game!

Following the adventures of a reluctant ghost-hunter, The Lost crown is a puzzlers delight! Set, for once, in good old England, the game features `real' places like Polperro, in Cornwall, and looks into the ghost stories that make those places so fascinating. You get to explore lots of locations, from creepy crypts, to isolated farmhouses, looking for ghosts using ghost-hunting gadgets...like the Night-Vision Camera, EMF Meter and EVP recorder. Some will have seen those gadgets on shows like Most Haunted, but The Lost Crown is actually scarier than that show, as the ghosts seem so real. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes ghost-hunting, adventure stories or detective games.
