5 out of 5 stars Essential   February 16, 2006

Xbox live is probably one of the best things about owning an Xbox 360. The system is so effective that I'd have been happy even if the visual capabilities of the console weren't so good.

So what's so great about Live then? Well, for anyone who's played PC games online, you'll know that you have to create an account for every single one of them, which can be confusing if nothing else. Xbox live allows you to create one account, linked to your hotmail account if you so wish, allowing you to play any compatible game online without having to register every time. Aside from this, Live now allows you to download playable demo's, video's and pictures to your Xbox 360's hard drive. There is also a new thing called "Xbox Live Arcade". This is where you can play some 80's classics and a range of puzzle games.

Live also has a few neat touches that round off the whole experience. You can now have a Gamercard. This is where you can show off how many achievements you've unlocked and how good your online reputation is. Its only a small thing, but it makes a neat package even better.

The Membership card for sale here allows you access to the Online gaming element of Live (the rest is free). If you have Project Gotham 3 or Dead or Alive 4, it is essential. At £32 it works out at £2.60 per month, which is fantastic value for money. If you want to play against other people from around the world, there is no better system.

Live is brilliant, its outstanding, play games, download tv & movies (not uk yet), download demos, arcade games, meet up with mates and get extra game content. Sure you need points to buy some content but our games are free (excluding this) and demos are free too.

5 out of 5 stars Quite simply the best.   June 29, 2007

Others may moan about having to pay for this but you for 9p a day its a bargain compared to the amount of fun you can have with all its features compared to the rather featureless online system sony has.
The reviewer below seems to think that setting up an online gaming network costs about a fiver and that MS is just using this as a ploy to get mega rich, this is not the case.

The amount of effort put in and costs for things such as bandwidth means it can be an expensive business, sure Sony's online network is free but you have no where near the amount of features and some games dont even have online play as Sony make the games developer pay for all tools and costs whereas for Live microsoft does it all for them, remember you get what you pay for!
Another great thing is that you can have all the features such as downloading trailers/demos and still chat to friends for free.

You only have to pay for playing online which is rather good because you hardly get any idiots like you did on the PS2 games who would setup multiple profiles and go team killing an entire game, if they tried this on Live they would get their account banned and would have to pay for a new one which I'm guessing they wouldnt be bothered to do for the sake of team killing unless they are very rich.

It would be nice to know if this is still dominant on Sonys network as you are still able to setup as many accounts as you like and use them to annoy other players, which frankly I would pay the fee alone for just to get rid of them.

xbox live evolves gamng to a whole new level. its wide range of abilitys places you right in the action.xbox live lets you enjoy the elements of playing against free minded people from all over te world. for example you could be drifting down a moutain side along with 8 other people on test drive unlimited or you could be battiling your way to cover on call of duty 3. you can also download content for your games off xbox live market place e.g. maps, cars or pics some of its free. you can also speak to friend via windows messanger.

xbox live is critical for a xbox and is a must have!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Xbox Live on a Whole..   August 4, 2007

When you ask someone what the best feature is about having an xbox, they would (if they had it) probably say xbox live. If you asked me, thats just the answer your would get. xbox live enables you to download things from the xbox live marketplace such as demo's, game trailers and gamer pictures. However a downfall to this is that some of the material requires microsoft points to download, an obvious source of money for microsoft, but worth it if you want the stuff. You can also access the xbox live arcade which includes many classic favourites such as frogger and joust to keep you amused for a long while, however most if not all of these require points, but they do have free trial versions.

It also enables online play with others around the world, mainly americans, on your favourite games of your choice. All xbox 360 games have xbox live enabled, wether it is for leaderboards like on dead rising or for all-action shooting fun like on games such as rainbow 6 vegas.

This is just in my case, but i have since mostly neglected single player mode on most of my games to go online with the FPS ones. But this wont apply to everyone!

You have to get this, it should be a crime not to!
