Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell: After the last game became the best selling launch title for the Xbox 360, Activision aren’t wasting any time with the follow-up as you do you bit to help out with the Normandy breakout and the liberation of France. The lowdown: Despite the new digit in the title this isn’t so much a sequel to Call of Duty 2 on the 360 and PC as it is Call of Duty: Big Red One on the PS2, Xbox and GameCube. It’s by the same developer (Treyarch), there’s no PC version and it doesn’t feature three distinct armies, but instead a recreation of the Normandy breakout. That’s not to suggest it’s short on new ideas though with much larger levels than ever before and far more vehicles to control (particularly in the Battlefield like multiplayer mode). There’s also a new Resident Evil 4 style quick time event system for hand-to-hand combat where you have to hit specific buttons to sock it to the Nazi hordes. Most exciting moment: It may seem a bit shallow to go on about the game’s explosions but really, there’s never been anything as realistic as the fireworks in this game. The way the smoke moves is particularly amazing, even drifting in the wind or dispersing after a second nearby explosion. Since you ask: Although Activision has confirmed nothing yet they have hinted that original Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward are working on their own sequel, primarily for the PC. When it will come out and whether it will be translated to the next generation consoles is currently unknown. The bottom line: The best WII first person shooter looks to be getting even better. Multiplayer Mayhem? November 10, 2006 A. Gibson (Bedworth UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This game has improved even more since the last one. The multiplayer action has larger maps and there are additional features such as player roles(Scout,Rifleman, Medic etc) for the large team games. The artillery feature and also the vehicle driving is also a plus.
It rocks my boat so far November 9, 2006 N. Marley (Little ole Guernsey) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
COD3 arrived early, thankfully I'd rather geekily arranged time off. Worth it? Yeah. It's more of the same, but looks, sounds (5.1) & feels better. If only I could afford a HD TV, but alas as i write interest rates rise. I am still working through the single player mode, but have spoken to several others who are already playin and they agree its better than COD2. So, if you like COD or FPS where you get to play against human computer graphic renditions rather than aliens, then you can't go wrong folks. Like I say above, it's rocking my boat so far, bring on multi player, updates and new maps. Till Halo 3 is out!
Absolute perfection November 13, 2006 Mr. Gw Fitzgerald 13 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is without a doubt the most realistic, exciting, and visually amazing war game ever made. The graphics are superb, the battles are epic and relaistic, with fetaures such as buildings actually showing signs of damage due to grenades or tank missiles. I cannot beieve anyone can rate this game any lower than 5 stars and I have had no problems what so ever with freezing, movie clips skipping etc. Also, i feel that reviewing the game with reference to the bricks falling in a way that defies gravity is being far too critical. I haven't noticed such occurances when playing the game, and wouldn't be that annoyed if rubble didn't fall down the way i wanted. To me, this has not been rushed at all, and the development team have dedicated alot of time creativity and effort to create this visually amazing, exciting perfect WW2 game.
WWII at its best! November 8, 2006 ASH 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Call of Duty 2 outsmarts all other war games with ease and was the 360's best game on release. Now the third in the series is released with much upgraded areas to make you feel ever closer to the battlefield. The graphics are incredible with smoke and blades of grass moving as they do. You actually feel like your there and with the amazing new online features of classes like scout, anti tank etc and vehicles, the intensity becomes ever greater. If you want war then get Call Of Duty 3. Now i gotta go online... i've been called for duty.
Excellent war fps November 14, 2006 Tec-know (UK) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Fps war drama on an epic scale, it accomplishes a sense of visceral fortitude that imitators such as Medal of Honor can only dream of...Beautiful realistic graphics that show the power of XBOX 360: smooth frame rates, tons of action/explosions onscreen, particle effects all over the place - all with no slowdown, or frame rate issues; excellent sound too. If you have a HD-TV, you'll be sure to be amazed!...With F.E.A.R, and Call Of Duty 3: you have two of the finest PC games on a console that matches them with no loss of detail or gameplay, infact improving them in some areas; beating a high-end (expensive)PC needed for these games!
