LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures takes the fun and creative construction of LEGO and combines it with the wits, daring and non-stop action from the original cinematic adventures that enthralled audiences everywhere (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). With a unique tongue-in-cheek take on the original adventures, LEGO Indiana Jones follows Dr. Jones escapades through the jungles of South America to the mountaintops of India. Fans can build, battle and brawl their way through their favorite cinematic moments, from Indy's entanglements with snakes to his dashing boulder run. Of course, pop culture's most iconic archeologist will whip through all the classic moments with the help of a host of supporting characters including Marion Ravenwood and Short Round. Players can also mix and match the body parts of more than 60 playable characters to create new heroes just as they could in the best-selling LEGO Star Wars games.

Xbox marks the spot... plus, achievement bonanza! June 19, 2008 G. A. Kester (UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures builds, if you pardon a Lego pun, on the gameplay established in developer Traveller's Tales' hugely successful Lego Star Wars titles. Basically, this involves assembling Lego items to progress through the game world, destroying things to collect Lego studs that can be redeemed for hidden extras, and finally bashing the heck out of anybody and everybody who isn't you or your switchable companion (though quite often you end up doing just that by accident anyway!) Graphically and stylistically, Lego Indiana Jones has much in common with its predecessors (and in fact features six hidden cameos by characters from George Lucas' other main franchise). It also creates a ton of atmosphere with the original film music of John Williams, and the occasional use of cues from the Young Indiana Jones TV series. Like Lego Star Wars, the game again involves 18 episodes, six for each film in the original trilogy (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull gets a brief reference in one of the unlockable extras, but is otherwise ignored), with an additional three secret levels that can be unlocked by collecting artefacts. While you don't need to have seen the films to get by, the cut-scene gags will make a lot more sense if you have. In fact, it's only in comparison with the film that many are amusing - otherwise they just seem purile! The final level of the Last Crusade also seems to assume that you know the film, as it requires you to both take the "Leap of Faith" and select the correct Grail exactly as Indy has to in the film, without any clues I could detect! However, people who haven't seen Last Crusade will soon work it all out by trial and error, as the puzzles are rarely that taxing. As before different characters have different abilities that allow you to pass into new areas, and many are only accessible once the Story Mode is completed and you enter Free Play (and then, you will have to have unlocked or purchased them for use). Gameplay has been tightened considerably. Whereas the Star Wars games featured an overcomplicated hub, the "Barnett College" central location of this game (not sure why it isn't "Marshall College" like in the films) is easier to navigate, and the collectables and Free Play objectives much more clearly defined and easy to obtain. Getting to 100% (and unlocking that particular achievement if your gamerscore matters to you) is a lot quicker and easier. Getting the full 1000 points is also fairly easy, provided you don't mind putting the work in (no ridiculous Avatar thing going on here). Most unlock as you play through normally anyway, so the times you have to do really stupid and diverse things just to trigger a "plinky" are quite rare. Additionally, each one is named for a quote from one of the films, which I enjoyed immensely as an Indy fan. I finished everything in around 14 hours, but after that there is no real replay value save a drop-in-drop-out co-op mode (two controllers on the smae machine only, sadly no Xbox Live version still). I bought Lego Indiana Jones straight after finishing GTA4, because after the undoubted brilliance but frequent frustration and overbearing running length of Niko's adventures in Liberty City I wanted something fun, fast and stress-free to play. Lego Indiana Jones delivers these, if you'll pardon an archaeology-based pun, in spades.
Lego AND Indiana Jones?! Fantastic! June 8, 2008 Jon (Kent UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well Lego have done it again, taken a well known franchise and made a solid gold lego series out of it! Can there be a better combination? This game is the most fun I have had from playing a video game in a LONG time! Everything about it is just right and you can tell that the developers (Travellers Tales) were huge fans of the films and not just game developers. A whole load of care and attention to detail has made it into this game. The graphics are good, as good as the limitations of lego can go at any rate. The scenery and backgrounds are almost identical to those in the films and somehow seem to intergrate with the lego elements nicely whilst still making items easy to spot. Key artifacts, vehicles and other items from the three films are all replicated faithfully in lego! The characters are just wonderful! Especially Indy and Henry Jones Sr! Some of the female characters are not instantly recognisable mostly because lego decide they should all have typical female lips which limits individual detail to the face, but that's just being picky now! Levels are fun and action packed. Mostly puzzle based involving building things out of lego to progress. Scenery can be broken up to reveal Lego studs which you need to collect to raise your score and buy new characters and other extras. All characters have different abilities and tools which react to different items in the game and you'll sometimes need to use more than one character at a time (There are always at least 2 in play) Henry Jones Sr. can translate symbols to open secret passages, Sallah can dig for items and Indy can use his whip to swing and pull on items. Vehicles can be driven including key vehicles from the films such as the German trucks, Short Round's car, motorbike and sidecar, speedboats in venice and also animals such as camels, elephants and horses. Each film is split into 6 levels making a total of 18 seperate levels all jam packed with action, puzzle solving and storyline. You don't need to worry about violence as lego people just break appart into pieces and it's all very cartoonesque. Nazi's are replaced with "enemies" and "soldiers" and where possible some scenes have been filtered for violent content. Considering the dark themes of the films, Travellers Tales did a fantastic job at keeping the Indy spirit alive in a very lighthearted game. The typical Indiana Jones humour is so similar to the humour used by Lego that some scenes have just been more or less pulled straight from the films! The cutscenes are an absolute treasure in themselves and a very suitable reward for playing through the levels. They depict the key scenes and not much detail is missed out. They do move rather fast and I wonder if non Indy watchers will be able to follow. (Are there such people?!) Wonderfully animated they will have you laughing out loud and remembering your favourite scenes from the films. Cutscenes lead on seemlessly to the next level and you'll forget that you're playing with Lego, it's a top notch Indiana Jones experience! The replay value is immense, you'll need to go back and play again to find all the hidden artefacts as some special characters need to be used in order to find them. Love and care has gone into this game and die hard Indiana fans will have trouble finding fault. Even the names of the achievements will have you chuckling as they've truly picked the best lines to sum each level! This game has got a whole charm and appeal of it's own, the best 30 I've spent and well worth every penny! If you love Lego and love Indiana Jones... buy it now!
Kids love it July 12, 2008 Zebedee (Westbury, Wiltshire United Kingdom) Keeps my 4 and 5 year old entertained for hours, not that we let them play it for hours mind!
Great game for all ages! August 12, 2008 G. KIRK Aged 27 and 35 we both really enjoyed this game in two person mode, it was one of those where your dying to get home from work to play it. It took about a week of daily hour'ish' sessions to complete. And we plan to play it again very soon. We just got the Starwars Saga one and we don't like that as much.
Great Fun!!! June 8, 2008 Mstr RA Hancock (Wales, UK) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a great game! Lego Indy is better than Lego Star Wars because of the new additions to the gameplay. Most levels are great except for some longwinded ones but overall 4/5
