The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force. The Wii version will not only give you a solid story-line developed by LucasArts involving the Darth Vader's secret apprentice, but you'll experience a new style of gameplay only the Wii can offer. With the Wiimote and Nunchuk you'll be able to battle your way through your enemies utilizing your Lightsaber attacks and Force powers. Not only can you experience this new control system in story mode, but you can also try your Jedi skills against a friend in the Wii, "Battle Mode." Joining the Dark Side doesn't seem like such a bad idea after all.

Game Features:
  • During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
  • Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
  • Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
  • In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
  • Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee home world Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility.
  • The Wii system's "Battle Mode," a one on one fighting arena simliar to the classic game, Star Wars: Masters of Teraes Kaesi.
  • Use the Wiimote to slash and pierce your enemies with your Jedi Lightsaber while you use the Wii Nunchuk to disable other opponents with your Force Powers.
  • LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press.

Meet the Cast
The Star Wars Saga will continue in 2008 with LucasArts' biggest-ever video game event. Set during the "dark times" between Episodes III and IV, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed portrays the previously untold story of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice -- and now you can put a face to that mysterious character as well as the major supporting cast members as LucasArts unveils the actors set to star in The Force Unleashed.

The Cast of The Force Unleashed

The Technology of The Force Unleashed
With The Force Unleashed, LucasArts not only introduces a new chapter in the Star Wars saga, but also pushes the Wii's game engine to deliver amazing detail and realism only found in a Star Wars title. You will experience gameplay and the Force like you never had before.

5 out of 5 stars A good game! Good fun, not too serious and great graphics!   September 30, 2008

I think that this is a good star wars game for the wii. Although I was at first sceptical after playing the first level, after the plot had thickened a bit and you get to play the dark apprentice, I found that I was hooked! The use of force powers is great and easy to learn, and being able to destroy various parts of the scenery and throw objects is great! Furthermore, the quality of the graphics are at a high standard - just wait till you see the city of nar shadaa! wonderful! this is not a weak lucas game at all, but is perhaps a little "arcadey" for more serious gamers. Nevertheless, combined with a good story line, great graphics and excellent music from the original films, this is a worthy contribution to the growing number of classic titles on the wii! one last thing, I think the wii controllers work well with this - for users who want a real "light saber" game, just wait till the new clone wars game that comes out in november!

this is an amazing game. Good storyline. Great affects. love the force action. Sometimes i get a bit board with fighting the same enemies and walking into the next stage and just destroying all the guards with lightning. Lightsabre battles are good though. very very good. They are high speed and you really have to be tactical. It does get a bit boring just hunting down jedis and killing them. Great game though, well worth getting.

i have had this on pre-order since august 9th (the day after my birthday) and its worth the wait, sure you cant use many saber moves but it has the basics eg. stab, block, left, right, p and down with loads more.
say you press A and swing your remote you throw it at targes but if you pick up somebody and do this then you throw-stab them, and this is just 1 of many cool moves.

(spoiler)
sure the story is kinda short but who cares, and who cares that you cant win.

none of that maters because there is 1 main concept that is great
your a force wielding lightsaber throwing one of a kind jedi/sith.

To play this game, requires nintendo wii.
Nintendo Wii Console (Includes Wii Sports)

Now it's time to be on the dark side! It's a good game on wii, as it's very physical though I would not buy it on Nintendo DS as one of the main reasons it's good is as it's physical. You can discover the story in between episode II and III. It's good because you can control the force and fight friends, AND destroy enemies. There is a duel mode where you can fight up to two friends. It is a great game, and it's not too difficult so your proggresion isn't stopped by impossible levels or another. It is a 16+ but is still a great game, and not too much violence so I don't see really why its a 16+ to be honest. Thank You for reading.

4 out of 5 stars Don't write it off too quick!   September 23, 2008

Reading the reviews, its like people write this game off too quickly. Lets start by saying its a lot more than Lego Star Wars. Lets add by saying it is not called 'Light Saber' unleashed. Please also remember that the Wii remote currently is not able to map your movements exactly, which is why they are bringing out MotionPlus.

Ok, so it starts of and you are getting a feel for the game, there is a LOT to learn, and it brings you in. Slowly you build up your powers and it is FUN to use them ALL.

Controls and Manuoeveres:
To use the Lightsaber, it is swinging your Wii remote about, try different combinations to get a flowing attack. When you do get it right, it is great and very flowing. Some people seem to concentrate on just using the light saber and there being no tactics other than swishing your remote about. This game is more about the combination of moves. Try using Force Dash to get around and strike.

Let me see what moves I can remember off the top of my head:
- Choke
- Lightening Strike
- Force Push - can follow up with a ball of lightening (I like this)
- Charge up opponents with electricity, then detonate them
- Lift up enemies and impale them with your light saber
- Jump and slam your light saber into the ground
- Pick Opponents up and slam them into the ground

These are my favourites, there are others which link onto after lightsaber combos.

Camera is not that great. It follows you about, however a quick turn and it is pointing in the wrong direction. Where is that button which centres behind your character?! It can get annoying when you go into the defend position and it turns you round to an enemy behind you as opposed to facing forwards!

And, yes, you can use your light saber to deflect laser fire back at your enemies.

Finishing moves for bosses involve a series of shakes on either the Nunchuck or Wii Remote, as you watch your character pummel the enemy.

Story:
Not that great, does have a few twists to keep it interesting. One noticeable thing is your pilot just happens to be an attractive (as far as CGI can be) blonde - kinda obvious where that one might lead.

Not much scope for free play, you go to the Navi computer expecting to be able to choose your route. Not so, it appears fixed - at least at this stage.

Upgrades:
You will be able to choose various costumes as the game progresses, different light sabers and an enhancement crystal.

Overall:

I like this game. I could not see how it works on other consoles, as the freedom the controls give you... could not imagine doing it with buttons.

It absorbed me more into the game than Mario Galaxy did (not to say it will be the same for everyone) and the enjoyment comes from defeating masses of enemies with your ever growing powers.

Concentrate on the game being a full package of what force powers to use along with your light saber, and not just light saber, and then you can start thinking about tactics to clean out rooms - there will always be a few you can use.

You cannot die in this game, you will revert back to the last saved position, however enemies defeated after the save stay defeated when you revert back. It might be that if you complete it with loosing minimal lives, you might get a different ending.

So great fun to play at the moment - 5*, however due to the limiting feel of the game, only 4* rating overall.

My arms hurt after playing a lot of this.

One useful hint:
I found doing the light saber slams difficult - where you jump up and slam the light saber into the ground. As with most Wii games it can be about finding the way to move the remote to get a reliable outcome. For me, I would simply relax my hand and allow the Wii remote to go from pointing upwards to pointing downwards. Works 100%. Flicking my wrist downwards was not reliable (possibly because there is an initial "up" movement when I do this)
