Amazon.co.uk Review In a nutshell: Help your Sims start their own business. From toy shops to restaurants, the world is your oyster - buy a plot of land and then fashion an empire to make Alan Sugar belch. The lowdown: The idea of a Sims business tycoon game may seem odd, but this is a surprisingly fun and accessible expansion. Although you can stay at home and create items to sell, most businesses are run from a new shopping centre area, which you can also visit separately. To run a shop you buy objects as normal, and then display and price them individually, or in bulk for your store. Running a restaurant or other service is more a case of creating the right mood with furniture and staff. You can hire and fire employees as you want, but it's worth being as hands-on as you can because you gain a wide range of new skills from the work you do. Most satisfying moment: Starting with a lemonade stand and building up your business empire until you can afford to buy any plot of land in town. Since you ask: As well as all the business tycoon elements the game also features 125 new items, including display cases, workbenches, cash registers and more. The bottom line: Another surprisingly generous and innovative expansion pack. Harrison Dent

Best yet! September 17, 2006 Janet Y (Norwich, UK) 50 out of 51 found this review helpful
I loved this expansion pack. It was the most creative yet, and there were different options for it; you could either set up a business at home, or buy a downtown plot and start there. Personally i prefered the home business as then your sims can rest while their employees work, and it is just a lot easier. It is also nice feeling in control of a business, and feeling the rewards when your business gradually gains stars. There are new items such as tills and shelves which also add to the experience. Your sims can sell anything they want, and they are also able to craft their own toys and flower displays, so there is a personal feel to it. If you like the sims 2 - buy it!
The Best Sims 2 Expansion Pack!!! April 11, 2007 GoldenMile (UK) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
As it says in the title, personally after buying all the Sims 2 expansion packs, Open For Business offers the most fun. Not only can you run and manage businesses, you can also buy and sell your own, as well as make your own business at home! It offers more to do than any other expansion pack including an entire pre-made shopping village which you can add-on to a town of your choice. Also with the expansion pack are hundreds of fabulous new items which you will want to use straight away. My personal favourite being the lift which is extremely handy and great to use. The only down-side of this game is that when you do get a business running, 100% of your time and effort has to be put towards running it. Open For Business is not an expansion pack for people who just want fun, it is in fact quite hard to cope with everything at once (more so because I own all the xpansion packs!). Otherwise this is a fantastic expansion pack, and for what you are paying, you will sure get your money's worth.
A Worthy Expansion May 1, 2006 Mr. C. C. Barrett (Suffolk, UK) 77 out of 82 found this review helpful
This expansion for the Sims 2 is the first that I really appreciate, despite liking the other two. The opportunity to get your sims running their own businesses breaks down the divide between work and home, allowing a more inclusive experience of your sims' efforts to make money and use the skills they build up over time. Along with the obvious necessary processes in running a business, there are also some great oddball moments that the programmers throw in to make it fun (as always). Bad makeovers at the salon and untrained cashiers make for absurd, humorous situation, but all these can be overcome with a little patience. A big plus point with this expansion is that you can rename lots from the neighbourhood view even if they have been built on, or a family has moved in. Also, your sim can buy a community plot to run their business from in any neighbourhood - the newly introduced 'shops' one, downtown, university or the original. Unfortunately, whilst playing with a family, they cannot visit your other sims' business lots, or home lots(in the case of a home business) to purchase their goods or services (only those community lots not occupied by any of your business sims, as before). Whilst playing with a business sim, however, sims from your other games will buy goods and have makeovers etc., with the results being seen when you next play that family. The extra objects you receive aren't necessarily special, although there are new roof forms - dome, cone and octagonal-based cones - which are brilliant if you're tired of the regular styles, but personally I find them a little awkward to use and need a bit of practice. If you haven't bought any of the other expansions yet, I'd suggest this one on the basis of new gameplay.
wsell thought out addition September 25, 2007 Ms. N. Devadoss (London, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This expansion pack adds a lot to the gameplay. As well as being able to open your own place to earn cash, setting up a business at home lets you avoid getting a full time career to earn money, great for family raisers. The skills badges are great too since higher skills allow you to make more exciting stuff. Without spoiling it too much: the top robot item is well worth working towards. There's loads of new stuff to do, new clothes and decorations, and all in all plenty that's been added. Hours of fun.

I have to admit I was getting a little bored with my sims until Open for Business came along. It opens up a whole new dynamic to the game, unlike Nightlife which basically was a better version of Hot Date for the original Sims game, this expansion is completely new. You buy a business, hire employees, keep track of cash flow, improve the business, get rewards and perks. The only problem is it takes a really long time to make any money. Even with cheating a little. University was good but I got bored as it took too long to graduate. This expansion just has something that appeals to me, I love games like Sim City 4, where you control the finances, this has a small element of that. The new clothes are cool but there is very little new furniture. And isn't it about time we got some new plants for the garden Maxis? Pleeaasee.Overall I believe it is the best expansion yet.
