Good story, but very short December 15, 2006 Orangeduck (Oxford, UK) 31 out of 31 found this review helpful
Not the best graphics in the world, but a well constructed game neverthless, with great puzzles and challenging enough to keep you occupied for some time. The story is reasonable enough and one that you can get into. Nice idea to integrate board games into the story - novel and challenging. Game was a bit short, and abruptly comes to a halt after the third adventure. This means having to wait until the next lot are available, which is not a smart marketing move.
Some faults, but overall very good. August 9, 2008 E. E. Hughes (Wiltshire, England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It is obvious that a lot of effort went into this game. The graphics are quite good and have a lot of detail, but that is not the best of it. Throughout the game there are detailed diagrams on walls, pamphlets that you can read, books on butterflies and fauna. Some of these give clues, but most of them are there to give an extra layer to the game: to give it texture. You could spend ages looking at each and every one if you wanted. If, however, you're not the sort of person to be interested in that sort of thing, you don't have to do more than a cursory glance, although you would have to be a soulless sort of person and therefore I wouldn't recommend the game to you. The puzzles are at times difficult and at others relatively easy, although at times I wasn't sure what I was meant to do. I enjoyed the lack of a notebook as it made me write my own notes. A pad and pen are definitely needed to complete the game. There is no hand holding with 'hints' every time you get stuck. My biggest gripes about the game: It is quite short. Often you can place your cursor over an item and nothing happens, but if you place your cursor over the same item but from a different screen then something does happen. This caused me to miss things a few times and was quite irritating. I would have preferred to have been able to click on the item and for the lead character to say 'I need to be closer'. Lastly, there are a lot of useless screens and no shortcuts. For instance, at the beginning of the game you need to go between the top floor and the bottom floor a fair few times. It takes around 6 clicks, when one would do. This became especially irritating during the times when I was stuck. All in all, it is a very good game. I would recommend it. I intend to buy the sequel.
